Mary:

Great post about women in the sport. We agree there is a lot of room for expansion for girls on all types of boats. The laser radial is a great place for girls to sail a single handed performance boat as is the byte. The Europe dinghy is wonderful as well but they are definitely pricey.

While we are on the subject of women in sailing I want all of the potential crew out there to know that we are now accepting resume's for a crew for next year's Worrell 1000. They must weigh less than 135 lbs and they need to have extensive catamaran sailing experience. The entry fee and charter fee for our team are paid in full and we are adding more sponsors to our TEAM this coming week.

If you fit these criteria and think you might like to sail in the race next year please send along your information. We would prefer a female from our sonosrs point of view but I am not adverse to a male if they are light enough.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Hi Mark

As a W-1000 vet I,d like to offer some suggestions on signing up a female crew ,---think your presentation was wrong here and may explain the lack of responce .

-maybe presenting yourself as the BACHELOR similar to the current popular t v show where 20 women are promised a potential mate ,-t v appearances ,-and in this case a FABULOUS all expence paid vacation ,-sea cruise , up the East coast of the US from spectacular Miami Beach resort to beautiful Virginia Beach VA , STAYING IN LUXERY RESORT HOTELS EACH EVENING--maybe ,- IN A DIFFERENT BEACHFRONT LOCATION .
14 SPECTACULAR DAYS AND NIGHTS with the bachelor .

You may have better luck with this type of approach .

sail safe
have fun
Carl -

very exciting this year with 35 teams entered ,
in all seriousness let me know if I can help in any regard .

Hey Mark-

When I was looking for a female crew to race the RTI as well as the Formula 22 Pro Circuit [adds on this sits as well as two others] not one woman replied. When I spoke with a few of the local woman catsailors they were only interested in the events with their friends. Not one would consider going to FWB or across country to compete. I know it takes a considerable time and effort training for this stuff and as one woman told me catsailing isn't for everyone...

If you are really serious try money... maybe you'll find some wannabe catsailing semi pro that will sail for boat bucks...

fair winds,
