Press Release: "There is a new cat on the prowl! But not just any cat, it’s the new 36’ power G Cat being built by Morning Star Fishermen’s founder,Hans Geissler. You see, before becoming a missionary and dedicating his life to fighting world hunger,Hans was a boat builder. He specialized in building high-tech, ultra light, high performance sailing catamarans under his brand name G-Cat Multihulls. After building more than 2,000 boats, Hans had stopped building boats to become a full time missionary and oversee Morning Star Fishermen’s operations during the 90’s.
Now, almost ten years later, Hans decided to re-open his boat factory, but this time he has another more altruistic motivation other than just making a profit selling his boats. His intention is to dedicate the first boat that is being produced at the new G-Cat factory to help raise awareness about MSF and it’s mission to fight global hunger. For this purpose Hans is planning to do a symbolic “Race Against Hunger” as a publicity and fundraising event. The “Race” will be an attempt to cross the sea from St. Petesberg,Florida to Bluefields on the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, on one tank load of fuel. This will be the maiden sea voyage of the first 36’ power G-Cat boat ever built, a 1,500 nautical mile trip scheduled for May 2008. The new 36’ power G-Cat is being built with the same high-performance, ultra-light specifications as the original sailing G-Cats. The idea is to produce a fuel efficient, low emission “green” boat. with the longest cruise range for it’s class. In addition to raising funds for MSF, the ’Race Against Hunger’ voyage to Nicaragua will serve to highlight the new training center being built by MSF in Nicaragua. The idea is to attract private and individual sponsors for the “Race”, who can make per-mile financial contributions, or sponsor the Captain or individual crew members. Depending on the amount of the contribution the sponsors can get publicity and add space on the hulls of the boat, event programs, etc. The funds will be used to revitalize the MSF’s financial reserves and finish rebuilding our training center in Dade City.
For detailed information regarding how you can get involved as a benevolent sponsor or volunteer for this fundraising event, please contact MSF’s Executive Director, Javier Colley at 352-523-2722 or e-mail to msfmail@morningstarfishermen.org"
