Has anyone tried most of the righting aids? Which did you think worked the best. The ones I'm aware of are the righting bag, righting pole, stick that jams in the daggerboard slot that you stand on, and shroud extenders. I've used shroud extenders on a Hobie 21 and a Supercat 20, and that has always worked well. I made a righting bag for when I single handed an 18, and that worked but modifications to my design would have made the task easier. I haven't used a pole ever.

Another note, anyone have experience with the shroud extenders for the Hobie 16 and 18. Does the wire that holds the mast in the cup interfere with sailing or mast rotation? Does it reliably retain the mast in the cup?

I tried a search (didn't try real hard) and didn't see that this has come up before.

G'day John you'll find heaps of information on this forum if you do a search. I havn't tried a bag yet but cant imagine a quicker way than a righting pole to right a cat if your just short of the right weight. Most of the time the cat has rounded up as it goes over and is in position for a quick righting, I just climb on the centreboard set the stop knot, go to the stern pull the pole out lean back boat comes up let pole go, then climb on boat release stopper knot off you go, the pole automatically retracts. It really is quick if you do it quick and dont let the boat settle regards
