Hello all,

I have just brought a mosquito with a sail number of "1256" in Mt Isa. I have never sailed before and I am being taught by a work mate on a Nacra 5.8 on the local lake. I have just brought a Bob Bond book "The handbook of sailing" and trying to get on the water as much as possible.

I have 2 questions. The dagger boards for the mozzie have been misplaced. Can you buy these at all? Also the "tramp" needs to be replaced fairly soon. Can you buy one in QLD at all?

Thank you,

Matt

Hi Matt
Welcome to the world of Mosquitoes.
If you measure the centreboard case from the front to the rear I am sure that some one on the forum will have a set lying around.
I have a set which are the wide long ones which I cut down to be a bit more effiecent.
As for the tramp If you go to a sail maker they should be able to make you a tramp no worries.

William

Hi William
Thank you very much. I will google some sail makers. I have a set of "Hood" made sails on the Mosquito.

Can anyone suggest any dealers in QLD or NSW for Mosquito products or is most equipment made by the owner?

Thank you for your help.

Matt

Matt,

The Hood Sails will have been made in Townsville by Michael Hunt and no longer availble.

and the email to you deals with the other questions.

David

The best thing about the mosquito is that you can go to your local boating shop and buy whatever parts you need.
Unlike some other classes which you have to buy from the association.
If you need any parts Im sure there are people on the forum that can help you out.

G'day Matt.
Good to see another mosquito in the northern states.
I haven only been sailing for about one year.
But every time i go out i learn somthing new.
I have found the quickest way to learn is to join a club and
start racing. Don't worry about coming last, I still come last in most of my races but i.am getting quicker every time i go out. It's all about time on the water and having fun. The good thing about club sailing [ the bar in the club house ] is the rescue boat, not that you will ever need it but it's good to now if you get stuck out there you've got help.

Matt,
Welcome to Mossie sailing, when you are looking for hardware just go to your local yacht shop, As for Blades and Boards Joey in Bendigo (0402456743) has been making them for the new boats, I also have a set of new 11" Boyer boards if you are interested. The most commonly used sail makers are Linsay Irwin's (03 95557328) from Melbourne, Asby Sails (03 54393799) and Goodall Yacht Sails (03 54436910) from Bendigo and John Cliffton(08 82949485) from Adelaide. They also make tramps. These guys send sails all over the country/world so getting them to you shouldn’t be a problem.
