There is a list here from all the boat and crew weights on the notice board. The lightest is 176 and the heaviest 190something.
The average weight of the 64 Tigers is 181kgs.

You goose, there are a lot of old RSA boats there and the AVERAGE of the whole fleet is 1kg over F18 min weight. Which is markedly different from the F16 fleet which averages 5kg over. Further: as a % of total boat weight the F16 average overweight is much more.

I would suggest that most of the new boats in the fleet are carrying corrector weights.

But carry on, its still funny... not

Robbie and Co are going really well, and the Black boat (mischa and Bas) are closing in nicely too.

Wouter: The results are somewhat skewed though.
For instance, we just came from the water when we got weighted (189kg ) there was probably at least 1 or 2 liters of water in the hulls and our spin and lines where still wet.
Some of the boats are quite old (2000ish)so maybe they weigh a bit more.
The boats that are below the min. weight (180kgs) are required to wear lead for compensation.

Chris?, (flumpmaster), a British accent?, yea, by way of Texas. Yea, he's a Brit.

And we're sure glad he transplanted to our area.

Chris, did you charter, or ship your Tiger?

Remember Chris, when in doubt, sheet in!

Yep, we were out there today. White sails with a big blue TCDYC logo. That last race today was fun - full on nuclear conditions and very reminiscent of the first day of the 2005 Tiger Worlds in Santa Barbara.

Our charter boat has 2001 hulls (but all the latest bells and whistles). It weighed in at 179 kg, so we have a water bottle packed with sand and water duct taped on to bring us up to 180kg. The class measurer was prowling the beach as folk came in today checking for corrector weights.

My 2005 Tiger weighed in at 179.5 in Santa Barbara, while the 2008 boat we have back home weighed 182 at last years North Americans. I think it very impressive how consistent the weights of these boats are.

I didn't know a Tiger mast could bend like this...

There will be steroid hearings after this championship.

Well, I know the guy with the mast (Tony F18) is quite an Mitch Booth addict. He must have had somekinda lesson on the "sloppy rake" setup from the Oz-bloke.

Someone had been making claims of F18 being typically 5 kg underweight.

Sounds like stretch to me to blame water in the hulls for a 189 - 175 = 13 kg weight difference.

Apart from that everything else is the same as the data taken at the GC 2007 but in that case that special someone claimed that the producers were to blame.

I guess the water at Zandvoort is alot less dense then in South Africa!

Wouter, if you can show me where I posted that F18's were 5kg underweight I will eat my entire collection of hats.

I would be confident that the F18 fleet is closer on average to its min weight than the F16 class average is to the min weight.

Now can we get back to the Tiger worlds please?

It would be great if someone at the Worlds could post from the Official Notice Board the combined crew weights for each of the first 5 boats ....

Thanks

I'll take a pen and paper down to the party this evening and make some notes. Todays racing was excellent. Many general recalls which was good for us as my start certainly need some work. Jesse and I both went swimming today. He on a downwind run (I doused and sailed back for him), and me after the last race when my trap line bust.

We got some up close free lessons from Mark Laruffa and the other top dogs today. It was amazing to watch how smooth and fast the top dogs are.

Chris.

Combined weight (kg) of crew for first 6 boats:

1. Mark Laruffa/Daniel Sims 168.0
2. Misha Heemskirk/Bastiaan Tentij 161.2
3. Robbie Lovig/Lachlan Gibson 183.5
4. Mitch Booth/Tiffany Baring-Gould 162.2
5. Shaun Ferry/John Van Der Vyfer 167.7
6. Carolijn Brouwer/Darren Bundock 142.4

Lots of variation in weight and a couple of mixed crews in the top 6, showing that the Hobie Tiger produces great one design racing without being particularly weight or gender sensitive.

Chris.

Chris,

We're all on edge wating for your posts and documentary. And you're always so politically correct:

'Lots of variation in weight and a couple of mixed crews in the top 6, showing that the Hobie Tiger produces great one design racing without being particularly weight or gender sensitive.'

Well said, and yes, the Tigers' a great boat.

Thanks Todd. I really should be getting some rest, but the Jagermeister shots from the drinking games this evening is making it hard to get to sleep. I hope we don't suffer too much tomorrow.

Wouter, there is a big difference between OLD boats that WERE BUILT UNDER MIN WEIGHT now over min weight many years later, than new F16s that MANUFATCURES CAN NOT PRODUCE UNDERWEIGHT NEW.

At the 07 Worlds, most boats were under min weight and carried correctors. There were some very old boats where the owners also were not concerned with rigging lightly, that were over weight.

My Capricorn weighs in at 175.3 kg and I carry 4.7 kg lead (5kg max allowed in F18 class rules). Most Capricorns vary between 175 and 177 kg. Tigers and Nacras are about the same.

Cheers
The Bus Conductor
