Wouter, one of the posts mentioned that they were weighed after sailing with water in the hulls and with wet ropes. I think this discredits a lot of the weights and sounds a bit like Hobie don't care, as long as the boats are from Hobie and Hobie gear is used.

My Tiger was never officially weighed but using household scales came in at 178.

Thanks Flump for all the work. I'd also be interested to here comments on performance differences between the different jibs that are being used.

I guess all I know about this is this thread on the hobie forums. I asked JD is there was an IHCA meeting happening a couple of days ago and he said he was not aware that one was happening. I'll do a little more investigation tomorrow. There is no buzz on the beach about any changes.

A lot of people here are using the fully battened jib. I don't think there are any performance differences between the jibs used that can be separated out from the performance of the sailors and their tactical decisions. Personally I like the fully battened jib - it always seems to have a nice shape and it looks cool. I never rigged the roller furler on the old jib anyway. Is it faster than the semi battened penetex jib or the old dacron jib? - who knows

Chris.

Do you have to be sure to add plasticizer to the automotive paint like they do for painting plastic bumpers? I want to hear more details if possible...type of paint, etc...

I had a brief chat with one of the Dutch sailors (TonyF18 from this site) on the beach today. Automotive bumper paint is used. I don't know what kind of priming or sail prep is necessary. Apparently the durability is good - 2 year old sails are holding up. I'll try and get the lowdown on the application technique and materials tomorrow.

There are 3 boats here with painted sails - and all look very cool.

Jake - if you want, I'd be willing to donate my old busted N20 sail to see if the painting thing works as advertised

Wow, that's a tight pack in the top 3 or 4 of the Tigers. Dragoons are pretty close too.

Just out of curiosity, who is the PRO? DRO? Is there a separate course for the Dragoons?

Mike

David Brookes is the PRO.

I would guess that a local is the DRO, if there is one.

About the painted sails: I will talk to the guy who actually did the sails in Holland and will start a new thread when I know exactly how this is done. Spray painting is one of them, but I heard that some of the newer sail graphics are designed in CAD and then pulled through a plotter.

Back on topic: Great sailing today btw, I NEARLY had flumpmaster on the last race (I had to yell startboard on the second to last tack). But on the last tack to the finish (upwind finish) he passed ahead within a few boatlengths).

I spoke with Colin Whitehead, President of the IHCA, Tiger Sailor and all round good guy this morning. There is no special IHCA meeting to discuss any changes to the Tiger this week - nor is he aware of any changes being proposed by Hobie Cat Europe at this time.

So, I think this rumour can be put to bed.

Chris.

This puts his Crew Union status under review, I think... <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

JW, Nice find. I talked to JB the day that he left and he sounded pretty nervous/ excited. He said it was his, ...debut as skipper". Could this be the beginnings of another F-18/ Tiger skipper to swap gelcoat with you guys in SoCaL?

Flumpmaster, Did you ever get time to take pictures of the different setups you are mentionning on you blog? I would love to see that.
