now that I have sanded the paint off of my carbon beams and applied a coat of West, what do I apply for a clear coat UV protectant? There are plenty of wood protectants, but I cant seem to find a clear epoxy covering/protectant. What you got for me?

not epoxy - it turns yellow with UV exposure.

I've used their tinted 2 part coatings before and they work really well. I would imagine their clear is pretty good too. It's pretty easy to find to - West Marine might carry it.

System Three Linear Polyurethane

PS - do NOT paint clear in direct sunlight.

Use the Awlgrip product Awl-Brite. This stuff is the ticket.

If your beam is really fair use Awlgrip clear modified-acrylic urethane. The problem with carbon beams and masts is pin air which leaves open carbon. If your beam is raw and rough spray (or brush) with Awlgrip 545 primer to seal up. Then fair, and spray.

Hope that helps!

I just clear-coated a new carbon spin pole yesterday. I used a product I found called Famowood Dura-Tuff

The product description states it works well on epoxy surfaced needng UV & abrasion protection.

Went on really nicely and made a beautiful glossy finish. I could touch the surface within 90 min. If it holds up well, I will re-finish my carbon tiller connector, which is now showing loads of flaking/peeling of the original Awlgrip (applied by Marstrom).
