Posts: 224 Cincinnati, Ohio | When your boat isn't in use, where do you store it during the season?
Currently mine is sitting in a relatives driveway and is about an hour and a half from water. (meaning I have to drive 30 minutes south to get the boat and 60 minutes north to water). Personally I would like it closer to water, so I can sail after work.
One of the near by lakes has "on the water" storage for $250/season + club membership and I can leave it floating in a dock slip or on a lift in a slip.....I don't see any cleats on the hobie, so I doubt mooring it mast up is a good idea....maybe for a pot bellied mono hull daysailer. And I'm not going to buy a boat lift that costs more than the boat.
Or there is a farmer that rents spaces in a gravel lot for $35/mo. He's about 2 miles from the water. No power lines between the lot and the water, so I could probably tow it mast up if I'm careful.
I just know that the office is 30 minutes south of water and the boat is 30 minutes south of the office and I'd rather mash the pedal to the floor and sail after work.

Posts: 1,200 Vancouver, BC | The best situation to mast up storage at a boat yard or cat-friendly sailing club. There's nothing like showing up, throwing up the sails and getting out there. Do not store a beach cat in the water...unless you're willing to do the keelboat (read "slow") boat-job anti-foul thing. Even then, your drain plugs (if you have them) will slowly leak and fill the hulls.

Posts: 224 Cincinnati, Ohio | I will probably just pay the $$ to keep it in a lot. Cheaper and more conveneient than towing it everywhere.
I might look into getting a boat lift for the next boat.

Posts: 224 Cincinnati, Ohio | Also, what are my limitations to towing with the mast up.....provided I can find a route free of power lines and tree limbs?
I made the drive last night and it looks like I have a straight shot for 2.1 miles.

Posts: 1,121 Eastern NC, USA | www.birminghamsailingclub.orgmast up storage, full kitchen, locker rooms, clubhouse, weekly racing. $395/year. Biggest complaint is that it is 40 minutes from home. No beach, so you launch like a dinghy. Jib up, launch, tie to the dock, raise the main while at the dock. The hardest part is getting from the dock to the trampoline. Coming back in also requires some finesse, especially when there is a crowd.

Posts: 342 Indianapolis, IN - Midwest USA... | My boat sits on the ground, mast up, at my club's "Hobie Beach" out on a skinny point for $180/yr & that includes a space in our parking lot for the trailer. I live 5 minutes away, and I keep my sails, etc... in a locker box next to the boat. So I can be on the water in just minutes from home or work. You can get mast-up parking spaces for $50 to $100/yr. Club dues vary depending on your age and type of boat. Top-notch facilities, lots of racing & social activities; unfortunately not many cats, though. www.indianapolissailing.org

Posts: 915 Dublin, Ireland | In Ireland, In Sailing Club - cost Euro300. On the grass above the beach, beside the lake. Mast up, everything almost rigged under a cover. I put on the beach in the poll - actually 6 ft off the beach
Probably nearly in the water now - with all the rain we've had

Posts: 5,558 Key Largo, FL & Put-in-Bay, OH... | Our boats are mast up at our sailing club in Key Largo, Florida in the wintertime and same thing at our sailing club at Put-in-Bay, Ohio in the summertime.
In both cases we have to pay boat dry-storage fees in addition to the club dues.
At the club in Ohio, we just pay $100 flat fee for the whole season, which is basically from May through October. At the club in Key Largo, we pay by the month, and I think it is somewhere around $30 a month (or less).
I know, it's expensive to belong to two clubs, but, heck, who needs health insurance? Sailing keeps you young. | | | Re: Where is your boat durring the sailing season

Posts: 915 Dublin, Ireland | At the club, mast up. US$100 or thereabout a year. Club house with shower, kitchen the works.. No bar though. 20 minutes to drive from home.
Picture shows a friends Dart16X at the boatpark (you know the guy Dermot), and the distance to the fjord. We had a good chat on the phone one day. I'm not sure if I was any help advising him. Laser were making lots of changes to the Dart 16 at the time , and I was not sure where it was going. It's still a good fun cat, if the crew is light enough. I hope that he's enjoying it.

Unregistered | Keep mine on a trailer till I move to Florida or Shreveport La were I can do mast up. Pain to set up each time with spin.

Posts: 126 southern Ontario | Mast up at a dry-sail only club. No docks, no power boats. Just Lasers, scows, and a bunch of cats. All stored mast up in a grass area next to the water. Great spot!

I've having trouble deciding which lake I would rather keep the boat at. We have Cowan to the north and Harsha to the South. They both have thier pro's and cons.
