I am making up a way to put my tiger mast on my trailer. I never had to move the boat before but now I am moving to a populated area. What I am thinking is to make a post on the hitch arm (whatever it's called) that has a bit of a lean towards the aft on top and putting a u shaped holder on top for the mast. Will probably put a winch there also for ginpoling the mast up.

I have three questions...
First, how much overhang rear of the boat is OK?

Second, any clever ways of resting the mast on the rear of the boat? and

Third, how much should the mast be above the rear of my vehicle on straight ground?

1. A few feet is fine - just tie a red rag on the end, or if trailering at night tape on a red bicycle light or LED headlamp.

2. The cheapest way of resting the mast on the back of the boat I've seen involves a big chunk of expanded polystyrene with grooves cut for the rear beam and mast (electric carving knives work well).

3. The mast only needs to be about a foot above the back of the vehicle unless you plan on some serious 4 wheeling or have it projecting over the back of the vehicle for some distance at a very flat angle (unlikely if you have the mast supported off the rear cross beam).

Thanks for the info. I made the post and put an auxiliary holder on the side for my H14 mast. As suggested it is about a foot above the car. I didn't do the foam as wood was easiest but I did the same idea. Appreciate it
