Sail Sand Point in Seattle is going "Green" for Earth Day. Well, at least we are doing our part. The 2 by 6 decking removed from a dock repair is being recycled to make Racks for our Waves and Hobie 16's. The Racks allow our fleet of 13 Cats to be stored, ready for launch with Cat Trax, and to drain properly.

When donated Hobie 16's and Waves are received, the good ones are fixed up by Volunteers, the rest are stripped, with the parts stored for reuse. The "dead" soft hulls are cut up, and sent to the landfill for proper burial. The parts are also available for use by our Volunteers. Nothing wrong with replacing a broken casting, or cross bar with a used, recycled part.

Comptips are being installed, and the left over mast parts can be made into interesting trophys. We did this in 1994 for a local Regatta.

The old wires are being reused to make new rigging. On our Waves, we use H-16 tiller crossbars and tiller connectors to "upgrade" the Wave connectors.

Our local sailors are now starting to donate their old sails, as they upgrade to new sails. This is a real help, as the donated H-16's usually come with well worn sails.

BTW, our Founders, Jon and Marcy Edwards are also doing their part, they now drive a new Toyota Prius.

We recycled my broken Tybee spin pole into a boom for my buddy's A Cat this weekend. Feeling better about my green status now...

The men were amazed, and said, "What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?" Matthew 8:27

I haven't bought anything new for the boat, all if it came from the used parts bin or Craigslist. I'll have to break down and by a new main halyard before it hits the water.

As for electronics, I try to by refurbished.

Ryan - H16 I prefer to go sailing because baseball, football, tennis, and golf only require 1 ball!
