I spoke to the IMC a month or so ago.. The IMC is strongly aligned with ISAF and its class regulations..
I know work is progressing to form national F16 associations and strengthen the F16 GC organisation and consitution.. Until these are finalised the F16 can not be recognized as a class with IMC.. When the national class structure is up to an acceptable standard for US sailing, for example, and affiliated with that body then F16 USA can join as an associate member in the sub classification national class.. While the F16 Global could find joining more difficult and then join as an associate member, until ISAF places an "International" in front of the class name..
My impression was the IMC wanted us represented at the national sailing body level ie US sailing, Yachting Australia etc and have then represent us via their multihull council.. (then my impressions have been wrong before)
What benefit gained isn't clear.. I don't believe associate membership give any real rights.. We are currently covered by the multihull associates or national sailing body if these are members of IMC
Remembering we will have responsibilities on joining even if at associate member status.. ie someone has to attend/listen in to the meeting and report back to the F16 council.. I dont believe our voice will be heard at associate membership level. Thus depending on how many meetings happen means someone has to give up their sailing time.. So it will become a downward information pathway and not a two way street <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> The only upside I see is the reps can network with the IMC councilors..
