Excellent on-the-water speed comparison between Tornado (sailed by none other than Glen Ashby & Darren Bundock!!), 18 ft Skiff & a Volvo Extreme 40:

The video captures elements of high performance sailings present and future. The Ausie 18's represent a gran prix circuit that is successful. the IShares V40's look like they are gaining momentum... the Tornado has had the Olympic stage.

So, the Olympics are off the table for 4 years... funding streams for the cat elite sailors have always focused on the gold medal hunt... What now?

Is there room for a gran prix cat scene in Australia?
Is the Ishares extreme 40 series going to be the next Holy Grail for the elite guys?
Is their a Euro gran Prix F18 or Tornado series in the works?
Do the big ocean races become the focus?
Anybody thought of a way to leverage the AC in 2009 with the C class or any other production cat match racing circuit? Would this be appealing enough to become the elite focus of the cat world?

Is there any consensus forming?
TIA

I like this idea.

The AC event could be apropriate to start a "Multihulls in the Olympics" campaign.

I recall Cayard and Couts are trying to get a 70' cat circut going over in Europe, any word on how that's coming along? Add that to the Volvo X-40's the C cats, etc. I would hope the -establishment- might start looking at speed vs. cost vs. fun vs. crew required, etc.
