Posts: 24 Milwaukee, WI | Having just moved to the Smith Mountain Lake (VA) area, I am interested to find if there are any other catamaran sailors in the area.
Additionally: what is the best launch area for the main body of the lake, and is there any place where you can leave your boat with the mast up on the lake?
Lastly, I will be looking to hook up with possible crew members and other cat sailors on the Lake, drop me an e-mail (jstrash@attglobal.net) please.

I would rather be sailing, than reading about sailing!

Posts: 50 Roanoke, VA | Welcome! There are a few of us cat sailors scattered here and there at the lake although there is no real organization. The best launch ramp that I have found is the Anthony Ford Boat Launch ( http://smith-mountain-lake.com/). Of course, if you are on the Bedford side of the lake, it could be quite a drive to get to. Last spring I joined VISA (Virginia Inland Sailing Association) which Gabor above mentions. You can keep your boat(s) there mast up and have access to the larger part of the lake. I am always looking for folks to sail with so feel free to PM for more info or if you want to try to meet up at the lake.
