Nov 1-2 -- Alter Cup Area D South Qualifiers, Quietwater Beach, Pensacola Beach Yacht Club, Pensacola Beach, FL, David Ingram smalldog266@comcast.net, 352-636-9870

Is it too soon to start talking about this?

I might do it, but it requires USSailing membership and mine's expired. Aside from all the "issues" with being a USSailing member, it does make one regatta expensive. the only reason I joined USS several years ago was because I was going to do the Area D qual but didn't. Aside from even that... since I don't really live there anymore I am sure I wouldn't "qualify" anyway though I am not going to finish high enough to get a spot at the AC anyway given the local talent.

Chris Amador mentioned, in another thread, that it is a good central location for the F16s. He, and others, have come South so many times, I feel a sort of obligation to go North.

I have no illusions about qualifying either, but the level of competition is quite high and it's exciting just being there. Or at least it is for me.

Pete is spot here.

Yes, the USSailing situation is unfortunate, but this is an event for multihulls and there are lot of passionate dedicated people behind the Alter Cup working very hard to make this happen for us.

I'm already very impressed with the folks I'm working with at PBYC and the event promises to be top drawer! And besides... it's Pensacola the next best place sail other than the Keys!

Dave

Alter Cup Area D South Rep

P.S. Yes I'm leaving now Tim.

I can certainly agree it is a great place to sail. I volunteered to help with the 2006 AC which was run by the PBYC- very nice people and very supportive of multihulls. Helps that Kirk is right across the street!

You know you are always welcome here Dave, and you would look good on a Blade!

Good to see you at Kelly Park but I'm sorry we didn't get to talk much or even time to play poker, and Tom bought cards and chips.

Depending on gas prices and family scheduling issues, I might make the drive to Pcola in Nov.

You never know! Sweetness has already tired to retire once, I'm on borrowed time. But those A's are damn sexy.

Yes they are and I enjoyed sailing one the little time I got on it, but I can tell you, in light to medium wind they are dog slow going downwind, after you are used to a spinnaker boat. You will be cursing every spin boat as it glides past you on your way downwind while you lie at an odd angle trying to keep your weight forward, boom out, mast rotated, etc. all the while wondering why you paid twice the price of your old spin boat for a boat that is slower downwind! I don't know what wind speed they come alive downwind at, maybe 12+? But until then, you will wish you had your spinny! Now, the Blade, 1 up, I think is the best of both worlds, like a poor man's A cat upwind and a spinnaker for the runs! What's not to like? And if Sweetness decides she would like to come along, lookie here, an extra trap and a jib!

Of course if I had the money I'd have one of each; A cat, F16, Inter 20, Sea Cart 30, 60' tri, etc. but for the little money I have left over after Mamma and the 4 kids take their cut, the Blade is the ticket, the most bang for the buck.

Do you have any pictures of the area?

You're welcome to try my Blade, 1 or 2 up, anytime.

You could get a birds eye view with Google Earth http://earth.google.com/

PBYC is the building to the right of the blue one.
