Also, set up a 2:1 system which will reduce the loads on the cleat and this way it won't pop up as easy, and also is much easier to pull the rudder down at speed.

thats pretty intense looking set up. I had a similar prob but replaced my cleats and line and all seems good (ya just gotta "thumb" it down hard into the cleat)

Three initial reactions.....
How does it react if you struck an object with the rudder?

It's a long reach to release it isn't it?

I'm assuming you still utilize shock cord for lifting up the rudder but could you add a line on the opposite path to control lifting the rudder. (I dislike the shock cord solution.)

Very cool though. You're a thinker. I like your tiller arm adjuster as well.

I've said it before - but the stock system works well if you use the right kind of line. This is one of the only places I would use the cheaper version ... but get the cheap white/red poly line from Lowes and use it on your rudder hold downs - you'll never have a problem again...the knobby nature of the line and the size of it result in it staying put.

[kvd] the clamp on the rear-end "releases" the handle, rudder goes up

[kvd] rather yes, but it is only one haul, it snaps in direct

[kvd] yes I attached the picture again, the arrow shows were the "up-line" is. It is the "greenisch/black" line with the blue tape to it

Very cool though. You're a thinker. I like your tiller arm adjuster as well.
[kvd] thanks, the bearings are from the steering rod of a GO-Kart. The "U" which holds the handlebar is the original which normally attach the tiller bar to the rudder bar

With all the talk about rudders, can I ask another question? What has everyone been doing with the adjsutment on the rudders - toe in or tow out with the leading edge?

Thanks

They should be slightly toed in. Never toed out. Toed out is like sailing around with your foot dragging in the water. Before you adjust the toe make sure you get all the slop out of the system. I got some of the Hobie delrin rudder pin bushings for thier castings and drilled my Nacra castings and installed them with stainless pins. Much better.
