So the Tiger Trax for the HT just showed up (6 months later!). I've got the wheels back on the axel no problem, but it came with a pair of Performance Catamaran cradles that have never been mounted to the axel. I think they might have been designed to mount to trailer crossbars. Anyone got suggestions on how to attach these? And one side of the cradles is slightly higher than the other, any advice on which side is inboard and out? I'll attach pic(s) in the morn. Thanks!

Dave

Usually they just bolt on.....

I'd put the high side on the outboard, but make sure that you get the most surface area contact either way.

Tiger Trax for a Hobie Tiger?? sounds like a match made in heaven... but i thought those wheels dont work well on big boats or sand?

6 months for the seller of the boat to get around to shipping the beach wheels, which somehow didn't come with the boat.

The wheels are for a Bimare Javelin, significantly lighter than a Tiger, so I hope they'll work ok. I've been pulling the boat up and down the beach on strips of carpeting so far.

I've got the same cradles, I made a small slit in the carpet to get the head of the bolt so that it sits down in the recessed area in the middle of the cradle, drill a hole in the cradle, and through the tube. Bolt thru the cradle and tube, you could add some 5200 and make it really solid.

Glue something rubberry, like a piece of radiator hose on the end of the bolt that sticks out of the tube with silicon, the cradles will hang down when they are not in use, and every once and a while they will spin to the hang down position when you are putting the boat on it and you dont want to put the boat down on the end of the bolt, it makes a nice neat hole. Yes, its been done before.

Drill a hole in the edge of the cradle and run the line through that as well. That way when you pull on the line the cradle flips to the upright position.

When are you making it back to MN Dave? You need to put that fleet membership to work. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Great! Thanks for the ideas guys. Mike Hensel has graciously offered to swap me a set of cradles designed for this axel diameter, so the project just got substantially easier. Probably won't make it back to MN this summer, Karl. Hopefully next year!

Bill pointed out a common problem, especially if you often have newish crew. An alternative to consider is to recess the bolts in the tubes. Drill a large enough hole in the bottom of the tube such that you can get a socket inside to tighten the nut on shorter bolts.
