Is there any more info available on this? The email for the contact (on the schedule page) bounced back as undeliverable. The Bay Week website doesn't mention any Wave events. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Sandusky Steeplechase Race, Saturday, August 2, 2008

Social Program - Sunday thru Wednesday

Date: June 19, 2008

A Special Invitation to Beachcats for the 2008 GMC & Progressive I-LYA Regatta Put-in-Bay, Ohio August 4, 5, & 6, 2008

GMC and Progressive Boat Insurance are the title sponsors for all three I-LYA Regattas; Juniors, Power and Sail. Bay Week is the best combination of sail boat racing and social activities that I know of and now it will be even better! At the center of all the fun is South Bass Island and a resort community called Put-in-Bay. This regatta is absolutely steeped in tradition. If you don't ever race any other regatta, this is the one for you!

This is a special event, like no other on the Great Lakes...and it's a Great Bargain!!!

I-LYA organizers use all their sponsorship $$$$ to give you a good deal. Unlike other events that charge you a high registration fee, and then charge you an arm and a leg for each and every drink at the a parties....at Bay Week, there are no arm bands, and (Almost)All the Parties are Free!!! And, there are more of them!!!

This is also a very Family Friendly event with Something for everybody. Besides the complete Sail and Social Program, Put-in-Bay is a resort community with much to do. And you will have your afternoons open to make the most of it. Be sure to check out the Social Program.....it has much to offer.

Changes for 2008: One change that you will notice right away is the overlap between the Power Boat and Sail Regattas on Saturday. If you get in early enough on Saturday, you might be able to see some of the Power Boat Contests like the Flying Mile, Docking, Navigation, Chicane, Raft or the War Canoe Contests.

See the Official Notice of Race for Registration Fees. www.I-LYA.COM or Call me at 419-635-2691 or e-mail me at Summer.Storm@cros.net or Jim Frederick at lemultihull@cros.net

Bay Week is one of the largest fresh-water events in the United States with boats hailing from all over the Great Lakes and Canada. Long before the I-LYA Regatta became a big boat regatta, it was a small boat regatta with the centerboards dominating the fleet. There will be three separate courses: one for One-Design Centerboards and Catamarans, one for the One-Design Monohulls, and another course for PHRF, Offshore Multihulls and Corsair Trimarans. There will be trophies for any class of three or more boats. We typically have a nice fleet of Interlakes, Hobies, Nacras and Waves. We would like to see more Mysteres and Sharks! We want to encourage other small One-Design Fleets to join in the fun! Each class will be governed by it's respective One-Design Class Rules. In the event that there aren't enough boats for a fleet, we can combine different class boats and use the US SAILING Portsmouth Handicapping System to score races. Download official Notice of Race here:

http://i-lya.com/Sail/sail.html and look for the schedule for Catamarans and Centerboard Boats.

There is a hoist, ramp and parking area for dry sailing your boat and camping available on site. Please read below for more information.

The Hobie Waves are Coming! The Hobie Wave North Coast Championship Regatta!!!!

This will be the 8th year for the Hobie Waves at the Bay. Thanks to the fleet building efforts of Rick White and Mary Wells, we've had a good competitive fleet every year.....7 Hobie Waves on site! The Hobie Wave may not be a highest tech boat, but it does offer good one-design racing in a day and age where it is difficult to find a one-design fleet of catamarans anywhere. But you can do it at the Bay!

So catch a Wave and bring it to the Bay! A great promoter of the Hobie Wave and the man who wrote the book (several books actually) on Catamaran Racing, Rick White, will be racing with us on a Wave. So rub shoulders with one of the sailing greats of all time. The Mighty Hobie Wave! The Great Equalizer!

Beachcats and Centerboards: The Sandusky Steeplechase Race, Saturday, August 2, 2008 - Logistics and a New Finish Line

You don't need to pay the cost of trailering your cat to the Bay. You can race over to the Bay in the Steeplechase Race!

The Sandusky Steeplechase Race, to be held on Saturday morning, August 2, 2008, is the is a 16 mile wet and wild feeder race which the beachcat sailors and some of the more hardy centerboard sailors use to get their boats from Sandusky, Ohio to South Bass Island (Put-In-Bay) in preparation for the Bay Week Regatta on Monday morning. The Sandusky Steeplechase Race is scored as a separate event from the Regatta. Trophies will be awarded three deep for any class of five or more boats. Entry fee is $25. Check out I-LYA Web site for more information: www.I-LYA.COM Download your 2008 I-LYA Regatta registration from a link at this website.

Note:

The Finish Line for the Sandusky Steeplechase and all the Deepwater Races on Saturday has been moved to another location west of the Perry's Monument and west of Peach Point. Check your Sailing Instructions.

In the past, many of the beachcat sailors did not stay for the Regatta, so they missed out on all the fun. Many the racers turned around at the finish line and headed back to Sandusky. Now we are giving you 3 reasons to stay and savor the flavor of the islands!

1st Camping at Put-in-Bay Yacht Club: Tent or Van camping for Saturday Night

and throughout the week. Call Deb Schaefer at 419-635-2691 or

E-Mail: summer.storm@cros.net PIBYC is within easy walking distance of town.

Camping at the State Park: You can also reserve campsites at the State Park,

call : 1-866-644-6727. I talked to the Park Manager, Steve, and he assures me

that the bathrooms are open and the water is fine. He tests it everyday. Make

reservations at Fox's Den, by the week: 419-285-5001. If you are camping at the

State Park or Fox's Den, there are taxies available to get you where you need to go.

2nd Pool Party at St. Hazards: The Multihulls will rendezvous Saturday afternoon at

St. Hazards Resort on Middle Bass Island. St. Hazards is a resort with the flavor of the

Caribbean with it's tiki style Bars, restaurant, microbrewery, swimming pool and spa, for

use by any of it's patrons, so bring your bathing suit. You won't believe you are still

in Ohio!!! You'll need to take Sonny's Ferry. Look for discount coupons in your race

packet!

3rd Logistics Guide and Transportation: One problem with having a regatta on the

island is the logistics. Those of us who have done it year after year don't give them

a second thought, but for new folks, trying to figure it all out, they can be daunting and

discouraging. If you have any questions, call us! Jim Johns will arrange for a van to

get sailors from the Miller's Ferry to SSC on Saturday AM, in time for the

Steeplechase Race. That means, if you are staying on the island Friday Night, you

have a way to get back to your boat at SSC. If you stay at SSC for the Party and

Dinner, you have a way to get your trailer and gear to PIB Saturday AM and we give

you a ride back. Cool! Please call Jim Johns in advance if you will be using this

service.

Call Jim Johns at 419-499-4269 for more information on the Sandusky Steeplechase.

I-LYA Sail Regatta Program, Monday through Wednesday, August 4, 5, & 6, 2008

One-Design Centerboards and Catamarans will have a separate course with an Expert Race Committee. Racing will begin each day at 9:00am. Plan on 2 or more races each day on Monday and Tuesday, and 1 or more races on Wednesday. There will trophies three deep for any class of five or more boats, and one trophy flag for a fleet of three boats. Registration is $60, that's Cheap considering all the free parties!
