The men were amazed, and said, "What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?" Matthew 8:27

Clearly, this falls under the "bigger boat wins" rule.

I think Subs always have right of way! But who would want to pursue any argument with a fully armed Sub!

Dangit, thats not fair. I was just referring to two surface vessels approaching one another. Sneaking up from underneath doesn't count. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. What are the odds of being right where the sub is surfacing?

On that note, how does a sub know if there is anything above it when it surfaces? Dey ain't got no winders.

The sub is moving from left to right so the sailboat will probably pass well behind.
And I dont think its surfacing, THIS is a sub surfacing properly (would make an awesome commitee though):
Code

I'm not sure they do know, remember when our US Navy pulled this little stunt (rapid rise) and hit a Japanees fishing boat, about 10 years ago?

That was the Ehime Maru noted above.

Ahh, thanks. I've got a great memory, but it's short...

Unfortunately, I think the submarine always has the right of way.

Are you kidding me? Of course the sub has the right of way. Even without post-9/11 security, it would be difficult to imagine a sub of that size being more maneuverable in coastal waters than a small sailboat.

Now, in these post-9/11 days, I'm amazed the sailboat was allowed to get that close without being intercepted by armed Coasties or Navy boats.
