Obviously forum members can't be made to use their real names but it sure as hell makes things confusing if they change their gender....???!

Mind you, I have to agree with the comments already made. It does not reflect at all well on any individual who compounds inflammatory posts with a hidden agenda while using an alter-ego, opposite gender, forum name.

If you're not prepared to stand by your comments/accusations under your real name then why should anyone take you seriously?

Agreed.

Perhaps it was because this individual wished to appear to be something he is not.

Maybe he wished to push his hidden agenda, while hoping to pursuade people this was an independant opinion and not biased by employment.

I second John & Scooby's comments....

Either post your real name or legally change it to your member name. No one shall hide their dissension behind false faces!

I am opting for the second choice...

My opinion.... Your login user name is your chance to clue others into your personality. When offering serious information or opinion, you should sign the bottom of your post with your name, thus adding validity and accountability to your words. Anon posters should be ignored, ppaticularly when invoved in serious subjects.

Real name and club so the validity of advice given can be weighed against results and typical sailing conditions.

i think real names will never fly

but i do think an appropriate apology would help us all move on

something like

"sorry guys and gals, i got a bit carried away there and did something that in retrospect was probably a little foolish. but i do love cat sailing and get a lot from the cut'n'thrust of both racing and internet forums. please accept my apology and i promise to just use the 1 screen persona from now on, friends?"

I think everyting on the net should be taken with a grain of salt.

I am however too much of a coward to use my real name.

My opinion is that it does not matter what your name is. What matters is that peoples opinions are taken on their merits. Any other opinions on why or why not to use real names???

Actually, TonyF18 is a reference to his real name, so we can exclude that from your listing.

Also, you yourself hardly ever judge somebodies posts or opinions by its inherit merit. Sorry, but I find it ironic you should refer to that now.

Personally, I have very little respect for flamatory posts made by (intentionally) anymous posters. Makes me feel that there is something not right, that there is something they want to hide, that they don't believe in the merit of their own posts enough to sign their name to it. I also feel it is pretty dishonourable to write an abusive post without standing up like a "man" and be judged.

I never write an anonymous post, never have and never will. Additionally my private contact details have always been specifcied in my profile. I would not allow myself to do anything less with the way I post in public. It's an honour thing. Similar reasoning with publically correcting any mistakes I've made in my postings.

I would say to you Sue, grow some pride and earn some honour by putting your real name to your posts. Otherwise you'll remain little more then a weasel that attacks from tightly packed bushes.

That is just the way I look at it.

Check out http://dvinfo.net/conf/

They use real names, over 25,000 members. Im not sure you can verify if the names are real, but of the people I know on there, the names are real. Pretty civilized forum too, and very popular.

Funnily enough the people who seem most annoyed are Clayton104, Buccaneer and Tony F18.
Claytons name is defintely not clayton and im pretty sure that Buccaneer does not drive a ship and rape and pillage for a living, his name is not even gender specific.

OK so will the REAL Clayton stand up!

Comments posted on internet message boards should stand on their own merit. Whether or not you agree or disagree with someone's opinion/rant/essay/dissertation shouldn't be linked to who someone is.

Welcome Adrian,

And indeed you made a good call here.

There wasn't anything secret left; you were already pinpointed a while ago even though it was decided to not come out with this info publically. Clayton is not associated with this and he must have found out by other means.

This should be an example for any other dealors/employees who are using aliases or considering using these.

These days it is impossible to stay anonymous on the internet anyway. Any (amateur) who thinks otherwise is only fooling himself.

It is much better that you came out yourself. That was the honourable thing to do. At least in my eyes you have regained respect by this action.

Congrats on your result, together with your crew Dobie (Aus), in this years Round Texel. Well done !

I know you all think I'm some 60 year old geezer who does nothing else that sit at my keyboard all day, but if you really want to find out the truth then consider yourself invited for a round of landyachting this coming winter (okt-april). That is if you are in NL then. You'll meet several others like TonyF18 there as well. I got about 5 of those landyachts in working order so we'll do some fleet racing. If you want then you can tell me what you really think of me and I'll offer you a beer in return. Same offer was made to Macca (Andrew McPherson).

Of course in the public environment (on these forums) you will always be talked back by my persona.

That is the game we "class founders/class officials/agents/employees" play !

Best of luck and sailing enjoyment !

Wouter

Great job of pretending to be a woman. You really had me going up until now. It did seem a little odd having a girl arguing for an unwanted weight increase to the F16 platform, as a real woman would never make such a foolish suggestion.

Thanks Wouter i would love to give some land yachting a go. I will try to drag Macca along as well. I would also apreciate the oportunity to meet you in person.

I would have thought that you would be an expert at picking a lady boy Buccaneer, considering your location.

No I'm not that good (as you had me fooled). But in person it's much easier, a deep voice is a general tip off, after that look at the hands and feet, also a predominate adams apple is a dead giveaway, and remember to check for scars on the shins from professional kick boxing!
