if you take a look at one of the Jupiter beach chaos movies, you'll see when Trey and Alan flip over, the mast hits sand HARD and doesn't break.

No doubt, Tad! They went over backwards with no stall at the apex, just slam. Those boats are tough. I watched J.D. come into the beach wide open, forget to pull the daggers, and park his I20 hard on the first sandbar. When we got it to the beach there was no damage at all, just some scuffs on the ends of the boards. I was amazed! Of course, J.D. and crew were banged up from the flight off the front but the boat was fine. Actually, I don't think J.D. got past the mast. If memory serves he hit the mast and the crew hit the bridles. Pretty nasty bruises and cuts from that.

yeah I bet there are some cracks at the back of the daggerboard wells from that.

That area takes a lot of abuse on those boats, and Jake can tell you what a bitch it is to repair that area. I'm going to be overhauling my hulls this winter after Outback cup. I might pay Jake to come down here and do it for me

Why go to all that trouble? Just charter it to Mischa again.

I rigged my boat today for the NE100... I was the first there by several hours... I left as it was starting to rain and drove 45 minutes home... after getting home I got a call saying my boat had flipped over during the storm from a 50mphish gust pushed through the grass, down a 2 foot enbankment with the mast head first into the sand... the boat just missed a bunch of big rocks.
All I could think about was $11,000!
I drove up and people had already dug the mast out of the sand... all that was wrong was the mast track was a little scuffed up.
Everyone was amazed that it didn't break, myself included... I guess we're paying for some durability with these masts.

Todd,
You should carry a set of corkscrew tie downs or go to a tent rental company and get some big heavy metal tent stakes and tie your boat down if you are going to leave it over night.

Having your mast break is a pain in the a**.

I think the i20 class is in trouble right now, the NE100 saw a jump in F18's from one, two years ago to 6 this year. And only 3 i20's this year. 2/3 of the fleet was F18's.

Rick Bliss told me the new i20's would be in the 26k range. Global pressures on carbon, oil, and a weak dollar are going to push the costs up on anything sourced outside the US.

A 100% US built F18 is the next new thing.

And the F18's were only a couple of minutes behind the i20's and thats pretty good over 40 or so miles.

Newport/Middletown in the background, Jamestown on the right.
One of the most beautiful spots to sail in the country, in my opinion.

At least when its 80 deg and blowing 12 knots steady.

Sometimes you need to check things out for yourself. I believe this was covered in a Class newsletter.

I'm not sure what you're reffering to???

Trey,
you can't mess with whats winning.... I will take your dollar though. Actually, put it towards one of those lunch box trailer boxes.
