Hello fellow virtual computer based sailors! I thought maybe we could all meet somewhere in florida this labor day weekend and race together. Celebrate olympic unity, drink beer, stuff like that.
There are three possible venues offering alternatives.
1) The rudder club in jacksonville has a 2 day August 30-31 buoy regatta on the St. Johns River where the mug race ends. Then Monday Sept 1 is a distance race we could also do from same location. This is also race 6? of the Harken series. I went last year and despite fear of low wind, we actually raced all three days in low of 7 and hi of 12 or so knots. Good food and party too.
2) The Sarasota Sailing squadron has an Aug 30-31 bouy regatta on the western intercoastal side, supposedly on site camping. Its mostly a laser, sunfish, other monos thing per the NOR but they list a cat class and will give a class to any 5+ boats that sign up by August 27. I have not yet done this regatta. We could probably hang around to Monday and run our own for fun distance race if conditions are good.
3) Tampa Bay Cat Sailors is running a distance race out of dunedin causeway Aug. 31, 1 day.
I've got an I-20, Acat, Force 5 or hobie 14 turbo ready to roll if anyone wants to try and make a class out of something somewhere. Let me know on this thread.
Respectfully submitted by someone Jonesing (sp) to sail off the summer doldrums.
