Been a while since I reminded anyone about the Buzzelli Multihull Rendezvous happening Oct 17-19th in Sarasota. There will definitely be a lot of stilettos and corsairs, we are hoping for a good showing of beach cats. I hope this event is on some of your radars. Sarasota could not be a better place for racing. And I can personally vouch for the coolness of the trophies, I am making them!

Furthermore, our lead organizer and a dedicated group of mulithull enthusiasts are committed to making this event a premier event in our sport, multihull or otherwise!

Help keep this post alive for the next couple months. Come beachcats, come corsairs, come stars and stripes (last i checked she was living in sarasota) come all! Lets take this idyllic venue and make the monomarans wonder about what they've been missing!

Already on the schedule. I'll try to do the Friday distance race as well as around the cans.

Is this event running from the Sarasota Sailing Squadron?
If so, do they really want cats this time?
I have had some bad experiences.

It is at the squadron and YES! they absolutely want cats. This event has traditionally been the Stiletto Nat's but was expanded last year to include corsairs and any other multihull. Last year we had a good size fleet of corsairs and all the usual suspects in there pimped out yacht-rod stilettos, plus a beautiful RC 27 and some miscellaneous multi's.

The event is being expanded in honor of the memory my uncle Bob Buzzelli, whose Peter Wormwood designed Gulfstream 35 "Merlin" was a fixture of the west coast florida large multi racing scene for 5 years or so. Bob was around to race stiletto 23's (his was the orange boat Clockwork, which I am now the proud owner of) during there prime in the mid 80's and continued to race his 27 GT his whole life. Bob was a loved and respected racer, mariner, and all around great guy. His love of multihulls and for the sailing community was evident to all who knew him and through all the organisations, (youth sailing, Aquarian Quest numerous environmental advocacy groups) he sponsored.

We will definitely have the corsairs and the stilettos back, Bring on the Beach Cats! And Bring on the Party!

I will take a look at my schedule, but sounds like it may be fun. Do you have an NOR or a schedule of events?

I competed in a Labor day regatta at the sarasota squadron. They put us on a course shared with a bunch of 420s which was a bit awkward picking through them on the legs, but since they were so slow, it wasn't too difficult.

Same regatta Ryan plowed that little opti kid (on port) with his 6.0 powered up. Dang opti didn't even get damaged, but I heard the 'thunk' 8 boatlengths away.

If this regatta is primarily mutlihulls, then there should be no problems. Lots of setup space and parking, and the race course should be plenty big...

Here is a link to the NOR

http://www.sarasotasailingsquad.com/Buzzelli.pdf

This will be a multihull only event. Whatever beachcats show up will be the smallest things out there. 4 or more make a class......

Who else is interested? I need to know how many trophies to make!

We will too! The other posting says something about on-site camping, any pre-arrangements needed for that?

Just remember your tent. The squadron is a really laid back place.

It starts off of the north end of Lido key and goes to the buoy off of Venice Jetty then back to Lido. I think its about 60 miles or so, but check your charts and don't quote me on that.

Through no fault of my own I happened to get that weekend off! Now, I will be going to Wildcat on Oct 4-5, but if I can sweet talk the wife into...God Forbid, 2 regattas in one month, I might be able to get over there, it's only 85 miles from Sebring, so I will certainly try.

So, to be sure, there is a distance race on Friday, triangles (more than 2 a day, I hope) on Saturday and Sunday?

If those big RC 27 + 30 drivers promise not to sit on me at the starting line, it might be fun racing triangle against them. In the Gulf or in the bay?

And what ever happened to Merlin? I loved that boat. Last time I saw it was up in St. Pete, but that was about 10 years ago I think.

Not likely we will be sitting on you at the start. However, if you start to leeward and try to pinch us up, you might be in for a long upwind leg. I'll promise not to sit on you if you promise not to pinch me up. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

The RC-27 & 30 do best by footing. The boards are relatively small for the boat, so they need some speed to provide adequate lift. Pinch us up with nowhere to tack away and we'll both end up last/second to last around the weather mark.

It's a great venue. We did it last year and had a lot of fun.

With that huge mast and main, I have no intention of being any where near -under- your bow! Do they race the triangles in the bay or in the Gulf?

Pete, you and I should buy a F28R and we could do it together! We could hire Jay to crew.
