Have just moved to Miami from Turks and Caicos and would like to know which sailing club is best to join to get on a Cat race circuit and which Cats are most popular. Am one of 'Intergalectic' Wave champ organisors in Provo a few years back, but whilst I would happily continue to race Waves I would really like the chance to race something faster after not hving the option whilst in TCI.

Just got this from John McKnight, get in touch with him. He runs the CABB scene all by himself. They meet up once a month on the south end of the Rickenbacher Causeway on Virginia Key.

1. September CABB race reminder
2. MYC Conch Cup Regatta
3. Tornado for sail and sale
4. Hot multihull video
5. Who picked up the free Nacra 5.8?

1. Okay, we dodged yet another hurricane. Let's go sailing before the next one develops. Next Saturday, September 13th, is our next race. It is the annual Key Biscayne Double Distance Race. As the name implies, we are going to race to Key Biscayne. Specifically we are going to race from the Rickenbacker Causeway to the ocean side of Key Biscayne. This is a beautiful sail. Where else can you sail to an island destination through, crystal clear, aqua colored water, and pull up on a pristine white sand beach and have lunch. Sign me up! After lunch we will sail the return race back to the Rickenbacker. So, I hope you can make it. Bring your own lunch and drinks. Bring a stopwatch to record your elapsed times. Bring a friend. Bring on the good times before we get distracted by another hurricane.

The crew meeting is promptly at 10:30 on the beach. Please be there and ready for the crew meeting by then. Stop by my trailer before that time to register for the race. See you Saturday.

2. The 37th annual Conch Cup Regatta, sponsored by the Miami Yacht Club, will be held Saturday, September 20, 2008. All the details and registration forms can be found on the MYC website at http://miamiyachtclub.net/regattas/conchcup/race.htm
This is great race which passes by Key Biscayne, Virginia Key, and Fisher Island, with a finish at the MYC on Watson Island. I personally am not going to be able to make it because I will be out of town at a wedding. Ya'll have fun!

3. I received the following post from John Esquivel about his Tornado which is for sale. If you are looking for the ultimate fast beach cat, this is it.

1997 Marstrom Tornado

For sale by John Esquivel for $9,000. This tornado is in good condition and has proven very race worthy. This boat was raced by the Puerto Rico Olympic team in Sydney and took 2nd place in the MOCR a few years later. There have been few modifications. It was weighed and certified for the 2007 MOCR. The hulls were just re-fared and painted in August 2008!! High-friction painting on top and edges. It has a carbon-fiber spinnaker pole and snuffer. Marstrom carbon-fiber/aluminum rudder hardware. Carbon-fiber tiller crossbar and extension with Ronstan connection. All foils are the wooden from Marstrom and are in good condition. It has an aluminum Marstrom mast. All standing rigging (cables) are less than a year old (including the diamond wires). All running rigging is in good race-ready condition. All non-handed sheets are spectra and new. The mainsheet is 9:1 Harken carbo blocks with auto ratchet. Self-tacking jib with Harken track. The spinnaker is rigged with two step launching and one step snuffing. The tack can be pre-launched by the crew from the trapeze or from the tramp. This allows for a fast head launch as you round the mark. The spinnaker can be snuffed from either side or point of sail. The trapeze lines are spectra and in very good condition. The crew's trapezes have Marstrom carbon-fiber adjustable rigging. Custom covers on spinnaker pole/snuffer. Custom cover for tramp (rigged). And custom covers for both hulls (un-rigged). Murray rudder covers for both rudders. Beach wheels with tornado cradles are included.

This boat comes with some very good sails! In total, worth $2600. I registered this boat with sail number USA851. Two great mainsails: one light-air mainsail made by Charlie Ogletree (USA Olympic Tornado sailor), the second main was made by Landenberger, Germany (this sail took 2nd place in European nationals few years ago). Two great jibs: both are from Ullman Sails (California), one of which was raced in Athens. Two spinnakers: one fair performing spinnaker (blue with some loud green) for training or small races and one good regatta spinnaker (solid red). Battens: all battens are foam/fiber. One set of jib battens and three sets of mainsail battens (one for each sail and one spare set). All sails have sail bags. All sails are measured and certified.

This boat is ready and rigged for competition racing right now!!

I have left the country and I must sell this boat. I purchased this boat from the Puerto Rico Olympic team after the 2006 MOCR, for $12,000. I have added $1,700 in sails and a small fortune in new rigging. I'm sad to sell but my new career will have me out of the country for several years. I'm offering my boat for a great price. It is rigged and ready for viewing at the US Sailing Center Miami, 2476 S. Bayshore Dr, Miami, FL 33133.

If you have any question or would like any pictures, please email me at esquivel.john@gmail.com or you may reach me at my office at 305-407-9801.

Thanks

John Esquivel

4. If you want to get reenergized about multihull sailing, take a look at this video. Wow, some kinda fun, I want one! Crank up the speakers.

5. Who picked up the free Nacra 5.8 that was given away recently? If you have it, I would like to know if you are fixing it up and plan the sail it.

John

Thanks for the reminder of what a strong and loyal boat that is- two hurricane strikes in a week and still waiting on the beach for me to take it sailing! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I daresay SWA is about to get a lot busier...Jeff's been flying daily to GDT with supplies for the homeless including Ian who lost everything. 6 mini BBQs and 15 cases of water going today.
Are you able to order new shrouds, stays and bridles for the 17? I'll replace everything when I raise the mast and get her sailing again.
Lost one of the masts on the club boats so we'll have to replace that with the spare under Rickey's. I have not been able to contact Mike and his skiffs are still upside down on their moorings so I think he's off island.
Talk to you soon

Nice to hear you are in the States.
CABB is definitely the place you want to sail and they very good events.
If interested, I still have my Taipan 4.9 (F16) for sale in Key Largo.
Also, for lots of racing, we race twice a week at the Upper Keys Sailing Club in Key Largo. We race on Thursday and Sunday. Last winter we got in over 90 series races, not counting regattas.
Consequently, I really have not had time to sail the CABB events.
At any rate, lots and lots of sailing in lower Florida and Key area.
Welcome,
Rick

Hi guys, enjoy your posts. Looking for a small cat for
weekends to sail along Florida west coast. Hard to find
anything under 30' - need to get hubby some experience
and up to speed before we retire on a 40' MaineCat.
Any ideas? Thanks!
