I have tried mast rake on my hobie 18 and had bad results. Anyone have any thoughts or advise?

Try measuring up the mast from the mast base 48" and make a mark in pencil on the front of the mast at that point. Measure from that point to the bridle pin on the front inside of the hull. You should have 105 1/2". This is a race proven setting for mast rake.
