Personally, I believe you want to be as close to the 150kg as possible with 155 to 160 still OK. Over 160 and you loose on VMG on the downwinds.

we used to race at about 180kg.

Upwind was fine. Down wind we could hold the lighter crews off but if we came in to the top mark behind them we couldn't attack.

I suspect the "minimum weight" would be the lightest weight possible for the small sail plan without adding lead. But you'd need a full set of custom sails including the main, all tailored to your weight.

We have had a very good season (podium every event) at 163 KG but will be dropping weight to be at 150 kg next season. We are able to do well in most conditions but we have struggled just a bit at the cut-off for single/double trap mode where the slightly lighter crews are able to get a way from us just a bit upwind.

I happily compete with the small sail plan at 125 kg. I had a good season in Florida at that weight, including 4th in the Mug race, some top spots in local fleet races and three top ten finishes at Nationals in TX (thanks Tina!). And we just logged a silver at that weight in my new fleet in California (thanks Karen!).

Sue Korz logged a top five, if I recall, under small sails with corrector weight at the US Nationals in Virginia.

After watching Lionel Messi play, I realize I need to sail harder.

Hi Everybody,

Crew weight is also my problem, as far as I know F18 & Tornado World Champions are around 153/155 kg.
I know also that the French F18 crew with Mourniac are 160kg
and they say they are competitive only when there is enought wind for double trapeze.
According to top F18 crews 135 kg seems to be the lower limit at this level of competition.

Hope it can be useful

Well I guess that settles it; I'm too fat!
