I love this damn thing more and more each day. So today after work there was a storm blowing thru again. You know that always means Wind! SO I head to the beach to go sailing. It was pretty empty today. There wasn't any Jet Skis. But there was 2 other larger sailboats and I saw 2 motorboats. So we got the boat in the water and start heading upwind. The wind was whipping, small white caped waves. SO I was able to run with one hull in the air no problem. What a rush. It was fast. Water splashing everywhere.
Then it was time to turn around. First turn was no problem and we were running down wind. A nice leisurely pace. Then it was time to turn and head toward the beach. As the boat turn, the boom was coming around. The wind gusted again, and caught the sail. Over the boat went. Oh the adventure is just beginning. At first the boat couldn't be righted. Then I remembered I had to point it into the wind. It came over without a problem. Then when we were climbing back on I let the crew get on first Then when I was trying to climb on the boat started sailing away. There I was dragging from behind. Knowing if I let go the boat wasn't coming back for me. Luckily I made it. Back on my little broken boat.
I repaired the bottom of the mast, but little did I know the top of the mast was getting bad too. There is a float on the top and when it hit the water it snapped off. taking the pulley that holds up the main sail with it. Slowly the mainsail was coming down. So there I was in the middle of Lake Mead. Trying to hold up what little sail I had left, and sail back to the beach with just the jib sail. Sun was going down, and it was starting to rain. All I could do was laugh my butt off. It reminded me of allot of the times I had 4wheeling when I had to patch my truck together to get it off the trail.
Incase you were wondering. I made it to the beach on my own power. I will fix he mast, and be sailing again soon. It is so much fun! Just thought I would share.
