I filled up with no problem and no lines today in Raleigh @ $3.85... maybe I should fill up the hulls of the boat with gas and do a little black market trading in Columbia this weekend...

Really guys... are you trying to kill attendance of the regatta?

I bought gas on 40/85 in Mebane for $3.48 today. Had to wait a little while and they only have regular.

I have faith that the situation will improve by Friday.

I do not have faith that people wont continue to over-react and suck down all the gas as soon as it becomes available.

good point mark...I'm figuring that things will get a whole lot better mid-week. All the numb-nutz have surely filled everything up by now.

That's because all of the pumps have bags over them so there's nothing to wait in line for. There's no shortage of regular in Raleigh, but driving around in search of higher octane fuel has gotten annoying.

Aaaa..filled up this morning on the way to work. $3.69 / gallon and I didn't have to wait at all - just got up a little earlier than usual to beat the crowds. It's starting to get better already. But that's OK if you don't want to come...more steak for me.

If it doesn't get better I don't think that I can make the trip to Columbia and come home to no gas.

Columbia has plenty of all grades and no lines.

I'm really more worried about after I get home with an empty tank.

greenville/spartanburg is the pipeline hub, so gas is plentiful and cheap there. You can take 85 back home instead of I20 and fill up there.

What is wrong with this picture, sailors talking about gas.

We went through this same situation in 1973. I lived in Key West then and was going somewhere to race almost every weekend. We all were carrying 5 or six 5 gallon jugs in our vans. If we ever wrecked it would have been ugly.

This shortage is temporary, but it could get a lot worse.

I am right now thinking of installing an extra tank in the bed of my truck.

In 1974 I had a Ford pick-up with two 25 gallion boat tanks in the bed. I had a range of about 600 miles. By then there was no shortage but it made it beneficial to price shop and get gas at the best price.

In retrospect, it was probably a pretty lethal situation!

Jack, if you did that these days, you'd be on Homeland Security's list.

Are you kidding? I finally got approval to get this weekend off. If gas was a deterrent I would have stopped traveling to regattas a while ago. I'll see you at the steak line.

apparently the derailleur hangar piece that broke is made of unobtainium.

I should be getting it back tomorrow.
