Posts: 267 Switzerland | 23 Teams from Italy, Switzerland and Poland fought it out in Ravenna, Porto Corsini. The Location was perfect at the Adriatico Wind Club http://www.adriaticowindclub.com/! We all enjoyed outstanding italien hospitality, good wind and sun! Daniele Saragoni and Luca Filippi where a class on his own. But then the heat was on for the following places. Check out the results. ResultsGalleryThanks again to all the volunteers that made this event possible! Definitly the best regatta I ever sailed!

Posts: 6,049 Sebring, Florida. | Nice job on the 2nd place Andi! And thanks for sharing the excellent pictures! What was with the pink and yellow shower caps on those two guys who broke their goose-neck? Did they know they would be swimming before they left the beach?
I found it interesting that the bows on those Ventillio's look a lot like the Blade and Capricorn bows, while your boat looks a lot like the new A3 A cat bows.

Are you guys having the same pricing issues with your Carbon Masts that the US is with the Inter 20 masts? $10,000 each? And who makes your masts? About how much does a new one cost?

Posts: 267 Switzerland | I found it interesting that the bows on those Ventillio's look a lot like the Blade and Capricorn bows, while your boat looks a lot like the new A3 A cat bows. The new Ventilo is from the same designer (Martin Fischer) as the Capricorn. While my boat (Eagle 18HT) is designed by Niels Bunkenburg (Nikita, Hobie Fox/FX1). Both designers, like Lalo Petrucci from Bimare as well, come from the A-Class. Despite that the boats where orginally derived from the A-Class, they have now much more volumne (than the earlier Models) and can be pushed much harder downwind (we were sometimes double trapezing downwind, when sailed to deep). I have never sailed the new Bimare X2, but the Ventilo and the Eagle defnitly start to plane downwind, when the water is smooth enough. The feeling is a bit like a dog eh the boat is released, bow is out of the water and you keep getting faster, the feeling is quite secure until you hit a wave and stuff your bows hard enough to stop the planning. If you look at this picture you can see that the bottom section of the hull is quite flat. The Ventilo has chines in the last quarter. The X2 from Bimare has the same hull shape like his heavier brother the X4 (F18). I think the boat has still allot in common with the Javelin, but has more volume and freeboard. Daniele Saragoni sailed on the X2 to victory and was very fast allround. | | | Re: Sun, fun and good times! 18HT europeans 2008

Well my mast was definitly expensive. Marstroem 4400 Euro. Mustbe something like 9000 US$. I think a Badini-, Ventilo- and the Bimare-Mast are around 2500 Euros. I don't know for sure. Maybe the Ventilo mast is bit more expensive than the one from Bimare. They are all strong enough, except you run into a bridge with the mast to high in the sky. | | | Re: Sun, fun and good times! 18HT europeans 2008

Rule 42 says: Except when permitted in rule 42.3 or 45, a boat shall compete by using only the wind and water to increase, maintain or decrease her speed. | | |
