Hi All,

I've just had to do some internal repairs and I have replaced a 45cm length of my working deck. ( Mosquito Cat tortured ply construction). The boat is finished in 2 part epoxy paint. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a way to get a smooth transition in the paint job between the repair and the existing deck. I am not kitted up for spraying so I will be brushing.

Cheers

Aside - Try rolling and laying off with a brush to get a smoother finish than just brushing. Test the roller first though to make sure it survives the two-pack solvents.

Re: Paint Transition
Tape off on the existing painted deck say an inch from the repair, lightly wet sand over the existing painted area upto the tape, (re-tape if necessary), paint the repair up to the tape and remove the tape with the paint still wet, wet sand and buff the transition area.

If you want to experiment and the job is small enough, you can try a Preval re-usable spray can...

Thanks for the advice.

I hadn't heard of the Preval but it looks like it'll do the job. It would have to give a better finish than a brush I would think so I'll give it a try.

Thanks again for your help.

Cheers

Simon if you look up International perfection paint they give a good online demo of rolling then tipping. I've used this with singlepack brightside for good results as well.

My roll and tip experience was also with the single pack Brightside and it produced a really good finish, as good as any spray job.

Maybe you could try that instead, certainly cheaper.

Thanks guys,

I found the video on roll & tipping.

I'll give that a go. I'm using a 2 pac to match what's already on the boat so it's probably a less less hazardous way of going about it. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />
