I got the garage floor poured yesterday and the Acat is now back inside. I want to hang her up above the car.

Have any of you done this? Any advice?

Is the Harken Hoister worth the money? It seems the cleat is the heart of the system and I could make up some thing cheaper with old blocks that I have lying around.

Thats what I'm thinking.

Did you buy the Harken system, or did you create one out of odds and ends?

A friend did the same thing years ago with an H16. He pieced it together with Home Depot blocks, wire rope and a trailer winch.

The only things I bought were the screw eyes. 4 OEM Hobie 16 jib sheet blocks on the corners, an old Harken triple from a mainsheet system, the lines are "retired" trampoline lacings and the winch came with my trailer (new - never used).

The triple block got replaced this year with 3 singles (Harken manual ratchets that got replaced on the Tiger by Ratchamatics) and all the lines got replaced, including the winch line. This will be it's 13th year of operation - and it gets used all year round. One boat in the ceiling; one on the trailer.

Do not use the line that comes on the winch (3-strand). Use a braided line to prevent it twisting up under load.

More pics Matt!!!

How are you attaching those lines to the boat? They don't appear to be tied to the tramp, or around/under the hulls, but it's hard to tell.

BTW, how the hell does John get away with that tiny snow blower in Michigan???

Mike,
You can live with a foot or so of snow on the ground when you wear Uggs all winter!
Right John?

Bill...
I used a combination of old and new parts for my hoist. Like Matt, I bought 1/2" eyebolts and a winch. The rest is either old or current parts. The lines are actually my spare spin sheets. The line that goes to the winch is the mainsheet from my Tiger. I planned to raise (in winter) and lower (in spring) the boat once. The lines aren't being used for sailing so I decided to use and save a few $$$. The Tiger platform weighs about 270 lbs (sans mast, sails, rigging, etc). With a four point hoist, each eyebolt/block needs to support about 70 lbs. A Cats weigh next to nothing wink. Just be sure your blocks have an adequate SWL (safe working load) and don't use wimpy eyebolts.

Mike...
The snowthrower might be small...but it's got muy grande huevos laugh I might be using it sooner than planned...it's snowing outside right now mad

Todd...
You know what they say about Uggs...it's always summer on the inside cool
