I don't understand the electronics "thing". I'm confused enough already. More clarity, less complexity.

It's pretty simple.

Push the button to turn it on.
Push it again to switch between speed or compass heading.
Push and hold the button to turn it off.

Here Pete, try this. Maybe mount it on your boom. One on each side.

Pretty Cool. Good to see them continuing to expand their line. I would like for it to be waterproof (at least higher water resistance) and a count down clock added. For the money, try the Fortrex 201 or get the full Velocitek SC-1.

don't you think the full sc 1 offers too much information and it becomes unusable when you are sailing single handed... You just can't think that fast with all of the information and and still sail the boat.

at first glance... the puck is telling me what I want to know... speed with resolution above 10 knots and whether I am on a lift or a header.

I have not had much success setting the upwind and downwind points on the first generation of veloceeks on the race course. the vmg was always vastly different. this puck looks a bit more useable.

You know... I wondered who would blast that soft ball out of the park... I did have you on the top of the list from the local guys..... but... your point is valid... it sucks getting older! As you know.

It's cheaper than the full blown Velocitek ... and much cheaper than the small TackTick (which is just a compass). As far as these devices go, it's placed well within the "very affordable" category.

Hi

Had to change to crew so I could use my Velocitek.

Great improvement in boat speed.

Unfortunately my wife believes it's her helming which make the difference frown .

Bye

Dave, I knew early on that I needed one of these on the boom to count laps! Further technology can wait!

I like the simplicity of this design, and having a real button to press seems like a real plus. I've never been a fan of the buttons on the previous velocitek models. I'm also impressed with the Speed Play software, that's definitely a much easier way to get tracks loaded and running then the old way. Now if we could just get more guys in our fleet to carry these on our boats, this could be a fun addition to our time at the bar after the races.

Now if only there was some tool that would help me remember all the marks on the course. grin

I chose the Garmin Fortrex 201 it mounts on the boom easy and can also be worn on the wrist. Speed, compass, lots of stuff I don't care about but the countdown timer and waypoints that can be saved on the fly are proving useful, and it was under a buck fifty.
