So I am just wondering if anyone plans to buy the new spinnaker for the H16. Seems the ISAF is pushing spinnakers on all the youth classes and this is the main reason spinnakers were developed for the H16. By the way they say the new spinnaker and luanching system is perfect for the H16 and that 10 years ago when they tried the spinnaker on the H16 it did not work well but that this new system adds a lot to its performance. So any buyers?

I am toying with the idea of getting a spin for my 16, but have not decided as of yet. Part of it is the current cost of buying one with my limited income.

I'm toying with the idea of getting one for my 17.

Especially if the snuffer system can be handled solo.

Look into the Inter-17 system, or maybe the FX-One system if you don't want to crossbreed!

I already have a trapseat spinnaker for my H16 but this new trumpet system that is coming from Europe looks good and from what I have heard works great with the H16. When I get it I will let you know how it works.

Keith: I inquired about the FX-one chute, seems that the experts think the 16 setup would work better because the 17 uses a smaller, more round shape than other boats. I'd love to get the I17 setup, but I'd imagine thats out of the college-student-budget

Know whatcha mean about budget!

There has been a 17 that has raced in the CRAC races with a furling screacher/hooter. Did pretty good...

Anyway, you'd be amazed what you can find if you don't mind used gear. Consider a few options and poke around for bargains - someone on the forum might just have what you're looking for!

I already found a setup for $500.... but that tax return that I was planning to spend on the spin setup is instead, going towards that PDQ 36 in Key West

Just a word of caution! Many spinnaker systems have been tried on the H16 with little or no success in improving the H16 performance. From all reports the trumpet system and especially the sail cut and shape of the spinnaker designed by Hobie Europe does add a lot to the performance to the H16, the first system to do so. And the only reason the H16 Trapseat systems works is due to the Trapseats themselves and without the Trapseats it will not work because the lines need to be run off the Trapseats. Hobie USA sells a spinnaker system that absolutely does not add any performance advantage to the H16, but of course they are now going to sell the H16 trumpet system, so do not buy the old system. So my suggestion is to either buy trumpet system from Hobie or some how find out the exact shape of this new spinnaker to have one built with the same shape so you do not waste your money on a dud. I must add that the trumpet system even without the sail is a winner for the H16.
