I know this isn't catamaran related, but please don't ream me a new one or bounce me out! If you don't know me, I have been sailing and racing these cats long enough to know better. Just cuz I have gone to "the dark side" doesn't inherently mean I am a bad person (does it?)!!

Anyhow, I am looking for 1 or 2 to help me deliver my Jeanneau 45 down the east coast. I have crew to help me get it from Newport, RI to Virginia Beach. But I may need some help getting it around Cape Hatteras to Charleston. We're leaving Newport ~ 1/2 (weather permitting). That should put us into V.B. around the 1/8-15, again, depending on weather.

If you are interested and available, please email me at nelson.peter1(at)live.com. I don't know how long it will take just yet, but that leg should be about 2-4 days straight, I think.

Thanks for considering it...and for not reaming me a new one!

Peter...
I'm busy during that time period but I might be able to find someone for you.
What kind of compensation were you thinking?

Just re-read and saw your set for Newport- VA Beach... I was thinking you needed someone for the whole trip.
Good luck! Sounds like a cold trip to me!

Hi Peter,
I do believe you have gone the wrong way. smirk
And if you go on the outside, you are again going the wrong way. It is a longer distance and you WILL get your butt kicked.
I have done quite a number of yacht deliveries down the coast and the only way to safely and comfortably navigate past the big capes is to take the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway to Beaufort, NC. That is a shorter distance and in safe, navigable waters.
Outside you will be experiencing the clash between two ocean currents that meet off Hatteras and really cause havoc.
Several times, while restocking in Beaufort a weather torn sailboat would come with everything on the boat a mess and sails torn, etc. Hate to think how many did not make it at all.
Good luck,
Rick

How else would all of those sail lofts stay in business in the sleepy town of Beaufort? I agree on the ICW tip. Even parts of that can get a bit hairy with the nor'easters this time of year.

The real issue with this trip is the Newport to VA leg. If its blowing you will make ice in your rig this time of year. You get enough ice in your rig the monoslug you are sailing flops over and doesnt come back up.

Then you die.

I know Peter and he's been around boats and the ocean for a plenty long while. I would crew for him in a heart beat if I hadn't planned a trip to the Keys during the same time (though I would ask to go inside the cape if he hadn't already planned it).
