Mylar and Pentex make cool accents for briefcases, messenger bags and attaché cases - send them to Elizabeth Barberi in Pensacola and she'll make you something really cool. Dacron sail make awesome awnings and deck accents. I knew a place in Gulf Breeze that would pay you a few bucks for old sails that they strung up over an outdoor deck.

As John said, our youth sailors had old donated sails made into ladies bags and sail bags for next to nothing, then sold them to raise money. Anyone with talent and a sewinf machine can make you something cool, especially if your numbers and/or emblem is visible

Before you give away sails, you might check with local Community Sailing Centers. We are always looking for donations. Quite often sails you do not keep, work well for our programs with minimum repair. We go thru a lot of sails each year. Sail repair is also part of our training.

I had a windbreaker made out ot one of my old Dacron P 18-2 mainsails once.

It was really cool, the huge P and the smaller 18-2 took up the whole back. It had a hood and everything.

Then after a few years, the old dacron ripped, so I then trashed it.

... how about a jacket? My wife has one of those:

These are made from Dacron, but other manufacturers can use Mylar, Kevlar and spi-cloth as well.

I have seen old sails strung up between trees at restraunts over outdoor eating areas.
It has to be just the right type of location with old buildings etc to look right but it did give a real
laid back casual feel to the restraunt.

Phill

Use them for shade sails. Custom ones can cost some real money.

For Christmas, my parents gave me a cool wine bottle tote that was fashioned from a used dacron sail.

Pretty unique.
