It’s back to work and stinking hot here.

I have wanted to fair the centre boards in all week, but it's been too hot. The pool and a cold beer are much more enticing.

Any way I faired one C B in today. Could of done both, but I have learnt from all my mistakes to wait and see what the 1st one looks like.

I have also collected my dolphin striker and adjustable striker thingy.

Slowly but surly.

Nice boards..

Iam not sure you mean that, but I will take it as a compliment.

They are the spare set off my Taipan I sold. They have been lengthened for the Blade and still need a bit of work done to them.

It's all good, they will scrub up !

Tony

The 1st CB fairing looks great, just a little touch up needed.

2nd CB faired in now. Camera playing up at the moment. Only 1 photo.

Managed to grab these yesterday. Selftacker track and car plus some bits and pieces.

On the final stretch. The external waterproofing has begun. Just a small amount of fairing touch up needed as I go along.

Just a little bit more progress, once 1st coat is finished, I will sand it back (more sanding)then add a 2nd coat, wet & dry, and off to the paint shop.

Looks good Tony! Launch this season?

About sanding.. It is a matter of getting the job done. On our strip plank project, we are finding new ways to get the job done. Sanding by hand is just so 1900 wink

Thanks Rolf

I bought one of those woven sanding wheels and put it on my drill. It makes a huge difference. There is still a lot of hand sanding to go though. Think I might invest in an orbital sander today.

Iam very happy with the finish, and once again I underestimated the time involved.

At least now I have a time frame. Due to the global financial melt down bull %*^# I have to have the boat out of here by Feb 20.

I have found a D.A. sander (Dual Action sander or Random orbit sander) is fast and is less likely to make ridges if sander is accidentally held in one place. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Random_orbital_sander

Still sanding, but almost done. The hulls should be ready for paint next Friday, averaging 1/2 hour per day.

But in the mean time, glueing the carbon mast togeather.

I take it this is a broken mast that you're fixing. Is that correct?

Sorry I should have mentioned that the mast was gift, (from the principals of Macquarie Innovation) it came broken in 3 pieces.

My employers, who have graciously allowed me to build my boat in their warehouse, also have donated the engineering time, and lab technicians and materials to put the mast back together for me.

Iam strictly the labourer in this endeavour.

I think that was part of the reason Socrates was killed. Be careful! grin

Thanks for sharing the images and the process. Most interesting to see how you approach the mast repair task.

It's amazing what can be done when you know what your doing.

In this case the lab techs. Thanks Neil & Paul.

1st photo, the join grinded back.
2md photo, 3 layers of 300g uni's and a 200g twill weave over the top with peel ply.
3rd photo, The section between the tape is the mast. To the right is a join and to the left is beefing up for the hounds.
