Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | Sail custom built for 170 lb sailor on a Boyer MKIV. Hoisted once, never sailed! I'll exchange one 9mm bullet for the sail! Caution - bullet may be hot to the touch and moving very quickly. No offers refused!
(someone stole my brand new Ashby main off my boat last night before I even had a chance to sail it).

Posts: 2,921 Michigan | That is ridiculous! Who would do such a thing? Its not like you can sell it or anything,
Hope you find the A-hole who did it. That seriously sucks. Maybe some freak has some new sail material fetish. oh wait...

Posts: 6,049 Sebring, Florida. | Jake, a description of the sail to help the rest of the class identify it? Sailbag and sail cloth color, cut, shape, battens, number (although that has probably been removed by now) any other identifying features? Was there a civilian population wandering about or just sailors in the area?
I would hope another A catter would never do this, but a non-sailor passerby might, and then try to sell it on Ebay or something.

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | We see these things from time to time and while I would imagine it would be easy to spot, I've never heard of them being found again...even whole boats.
However, the mainsail is a nicely shaped square head sail made of white pentex with blue scrim. It has USA and the Ashby logo on it (an "A" with a kangaroo and "shby" following it). I hadn't yet put the sail numbers on it - even though they would have been able to peel them off, that was bad fortune there too. It's in a purple sailbag with a tag, that undoubtedly would no longer be on it, with my name, "Jake Kohl", on it. It has the plastic tube bolt rope designed for a mast with no halyard...so it probably won't even fit anything other than an a-cat.

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | I thought that was Blake's old N20 sail stolen from Daytona with your 8:1 mainsheet...
Someone's building a carport with sails instead of canvas, I'll bet..

Hopefully you filed a police report and have contacted your insurance company. As for the 9mm, that's a woosies bullet. I have a 30.06, 220 grain high speed, scope capable of 500m+, just for that special person.

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | reach out and touch someone. I'm too lazy to wait for 500 yds.
.338 (300 grain) Lapua at 950+ yds. Leupold 6.5-25 x 50mm
I'm blueprinting a .408 Chey Tac, but really don't think I'll be able to shoulder it (definitely need to think brake/suppressor design). The Lapua is enough after about 6 shots! But one is all it takes, right?

Posts: 3,528 Looking for a Job, I got credi... | Jake, That really sucks. There are not that many Ashby sails in the US, should be easy to spot. I would contact local sail lofts and put the word out in case of a recut. Hopefully some punk-butt isn't going to use it for a tarp or something. 100% agree; also keep an eye out on ebay etc.

Police report filed, I'll contact insurance on Wednesday...I'll get to see how good Progressive is and if my zero deductible holds up. I've moved on - sail gone and even if it did show up it's probably been mistreated. I did, however, have a ball today racing with the a-catters out here. Several people graciously offered up their sails (thanks guys!) but I didn't want to go to all that trouble. I'm running my 8 year old GoodAll main (that has little use) and still am relatively competitive...having a lot of fun!
