The Wet Kitty Catamaran Club from Arizona is tossing aroung the prospect of doing the "Border Run" from Newport to San Diego. I have never sailed on those waters. What are the wind, Water, Water temp. conditions we could expect?
Also, what leg would you other Catters run. The 60 or the 90 mile leg.
How about travel to the launch area and availability of setup area?
Lee W, feel free to chime in here. I have also posted a link to the Border Run on azcatsailor yahoo groups, maby some others will join us.
I havent done any distance runs yet and thought the short run may be enough unless the wind conditions are strong.

dear mr. az. Highly recommend short course, there will be plenty beach cats in it. The conditions are usually what you would call "southern california benign", though it can vary from extreme light and fluky to (rarely) sorta heavy 20+ There are several bailout points such as oceanside where you could get a ride to your trailer. There will also be a chase boat. The general average for the race is it starts out fluky and light, sometimes on the nose and generally builds and goes aft until darkish time when it start going back to light and shifty. There are about a billion launch ramps in and around s.d. I think this race is gonna rock and soon become the mini tybee of the west!

Mitch,
See if you can talk Randy into starting it in Santabarbara next year. Seriously, have one or two stopovers in like Malibu then Newport then SD.

I should have told mr. az that lee will be following the fleet in his catering truck, er, I mean catamaran to pick up stragglers and provide snacks and beer. No, seriously, if mr wicklund is first to finish the short course I will personally buy him a beer (8 oz. limit, domestic beer only, no refills)

Three teams at ABYC are looking at it as of last night's happy hour. There is also someone (can't remember his name) who is looking at starting a new (reviving an old?) double-hand series from Long Beach to Catalina, camp, race back - they are talking about August next year. Sounded pretty serious, with sponsors and support boats, PHRF and cats as the intended fleets.

I'm thinking about it. I imagine some others from MBYC are as well.

the xs short course fleet is going to be strong, with a variety of multis, plenty of beachcats are gonna show. They also do a bunch of catalina races every year with all the r-33's and some other multis, they encourage everybody to come out and play.
