When we removed a plug in the hull for a test daggerboard. It was a great opportunity to build a beer cooler in the hull. See the pictures. Look at the Super Cat Project (teamcyberspeed). pages 1-2-4

i recognize that boat.... that was Bill Roberts boat... then Dan Berger owned it for a hot minute.... Bill was tring to see if wingshaped daggers would provide extra lift... no sure if you know but that boat is wider than any other SC20.. he added a few inches to either side of the beams, a total of 6inches wider... but that boat is fast and very wet....

yea Bill denied that it was wider, right up until we put our SC 20 cat trax underneath and they didnt fit! He's still the man, was curved boards his idea too?
He claims the spin snuffer as his invention...

the boards were curved front to back not like the newer bannana boards the Acat guys r using....
well on his SC20 he was still using the tramp bag so if he thought it up you'd thunk he would be using it....

Those boards look asymmetrical - am I looking at that right? I guess you have to raise the windward one every tack/gybe?

I know Bill very well all of his boats had an advantage most of them were lighter. He use to have a shop across from my friends shop in Jupiter. I watched them make the molds for the SC20. The daggerboard trunk did not look different then the other trunk. A friend of mine owns the original SC19 and it's for sale.

It looks different now! It is a very fast and wet boat. You have to be SCUBA certified to sail on it.

Ask him about I-20s ,he starts twitching. He's definitely good at getting soft numbers for his boats!

Mine aint soft.... Check it out, ARC21 SPI against the SC20 w Tallrig no spi plus width diff. I gotta sail the stnk outa this boat. Because of thebeam I am usually in depower mode except downwind, awesome bouancy even w/o spi. but still will fly a hull in nothing wind with 400 lbs crew weight.

I am having a new main built with less draft, hopefully the changes will help.

Hang on... lemme call the WWAAAAAHHHHHMMMMBULANCE.
You've got more length and way more sail area and a I/N-20 owes/has to give you between 1.5 and 4 through the wind range. You can't compare any number to a SC20 tr that number is whacked and always has been.

SuperCat 20 TallRig n/s SC20H 63.8 67.1 65.0 63.6 59.8
........ARC 21 ODR spi ARC21 61.8 65.3 62.7 61.1 58.0
..........Nacra 20 Slp spi N20 59.3 61.9 60.2 58.5 57.6
Please!

" Because of thebeam I am usually in depower mode except downwind, awesome bouancy even w/o spi. but still will fly a hull in nothing wind with 400 lbs crew weight." Sounds like a good lake boat, you should bring it to Spring Fever.

well to be fair to all those who sail SC/ARC these boats aren't sailed as much as I20s... plus I20's are sailed by olympic calliber sailors... so the more boats being sailed the more likely the number to go up.... but yes SC/ARC are portsmouth beaters....

Let me get this straight, You are taking OUT the daggerboards on this boat?

Don't need to point too high I guess with those numbers.

When I had the boat, it had the daggers in the normal place. Bill told me that he was experimenting with boards in front of the beam like the ARC21, so there was a kidney shaped patch in the deck on the stbd side. I think the were symmetrical, but I never saw them--it was a matter-of-fact discussion. The bottom was finished, so you really couldn't tell what was there.

That was a nice boat, it looks a lot better than when I had it!

Thanks Dan!

Todd it had a prototype 3rd dagger board that had been plugged. Like Dan said it looked like a huge kidney bean glued on the deck to plug the hole. I left the boat with two dagger boards.

Eric - Many Many years ago I ran the portsmith for G-Cat one year. Here is how it works. You want a lower number then the boats in your market range but not blown away so you fair well in the race. Just enough for Braggin rights over the sales counter.

It has some to do with racing and good sailors do make a difference; but marketing is also a big part of it. You’ve got to remember to the manufactures it is product and how do you push a product? Like I told Bill Roberts once years ago, “Your boat should beat mine it cost three times as much, but can you beat me three times faster? If I paid three times more and got beat by a cheaper boat I’d be pissed!”

Good point, it is hard to correct a rating on a boat that is not reported. Butt still, waaaa waaaaa waaaa!

0-60 and turn on a dime. That was an abrupt about face.

How does the TALL RIG on a 4 FRICKIN FOOT wider boat make up for 1 foot of length? The spi is rated on the 21 butt not on the 20.
ARC21 mast is 33"

Is waterline the defining factor?

Inquiring minds wants to know?
