Anyone going to this? CAB?

I'm thinking about going, but I won't know for sure if I can go until the last moment, Wednesday. There's other things that I should be doing, but I would like to make it to this regatta. smile

Is there anywhere close and cheap to stay? Or does anyone mind someone crashing? smile

Hi Mike,
I was going to crew for Andy on his infusion. I think he has found someone else that can crew so I hope to sail my boat. I know Steve is coming over. I think Andy was also considering sailing the viper instead of the infusion. You can stay at my house if you want. I am about 10-15 minutes from the beach.

Mike Wilson convinced me to go to MW on Friday and set up our boats because of the large turnout. It should be a good learning experience for us - last year the f18s sailed with the open fleet. If the average windspeed is 18knots+ I will probably not race but practice tacks ,jibes, downwind sailing.Mike - consider getting another set of ratchet blocks for the spin. The sheet also hurt my hands even at 8knots but with 2 pair I felt fine this saturday at 12-14knots.Unfortunately,the non ratchet blocks on the front cross bar are riveted. You can drill the rivets out and re-rivet them or save time and destroy the Holt blocks with a hacksaw.

drill them out and replace with rivnuts, that way you'll be able to easily remove them later.

I have the same issue and I plan to replace my front blocks with ratchet blocks. What is a rivnut? Is that different from a screw?

A rivinut is a special hybrid rivet with a nut at it's core. It requires a special tool to install. It's tough to find a stainless or monel rivnut so it corrodes in the Alu beams. If possible fishing a nut and washer gooped with anticorode on a stick with a wrench is a better long term solution... all be it a huge pain in the butt to install.

Just use blind rivets and drill them out when you need to replace a part or use stainless steel screws (parkers). The latter are surprisingly strong and the little corroding that does happen between the stainless steel screw and the alu beam prevents further corrosion and locks the screw tightly in place.

Have used the screw option on my spi halyard cleat on my mainbeam. I'm pushing 5 seasons now and no troubles with either loads or corrosion.
