What is the camping situation like at Columbia? The forecast is calling for some rain, I don't mind camping in the rain if there are places to stay dry besides just staying in the tent. Are there showers etc on site?

Thanks!

yes to showers. Tent camping all over the place though none of it covered (unless you convince an RV owner to let you pop it under an awning...which is possible). Gorgeous clubhouse.

it might be early in the year but watchout for fire ants. Bring some of the fire ant killer with you and sprinkle it around your tent.

Oh and try to remember not to be "that guy" and walk in the super-nice clubhouse with waterlogged booties :P

Definitly not too early in the year, was grabbing a rock near the edge of the water at Pee Dee on Sunday and must have stepped on a colony, few minutes later my left leg was burning and I looked down and my shoe and lower pant leg were covered in ants, quick sprint up the hill and I managed to get my shoes and pants off before getting really bit, they only got me about 4-5 times on my left leg.

Any spots better than others to pitch the tent as far as the ants go?

Weather right now, ^0% showers late saturday, "Breezy", Sunday 74 and "windy". Not sure what the differenrence between "breezy" and "windy", but I dont mind either.

Camping is abundant, and although I was on the beach all day yeasterday cleaning and raking and didnt see any fire ants, that doesnt mean there arent any. Just watch where you set up your tent and you will be fine.

You can use my awning if you help me tie it down. On the bright side, there's a good chance of wind!

Not worried about the weather, just figured I would post the forecast. It does sound like there is going to be some wind smile

I may take you up on your awning offer, thanks Jake. Looking forward to this weekend!

Never trust a forecast more than three days out. At three days you can generally depend on sun, clouds, or rain part of the forecast. At two days out you can start to believe the general wind synopsis. Only the day before can you have any faith in the wind strength prediction throughout the day. Only the morning of can you have faith in the wind directional information. Even then, it's generally only 70% accurate.

this past weekend, the different sites all had different wind ranges for Pcola beach from 6 knots through 30 knots - the night before the race.

If Krantz will bring his A Cat, Nigel' boat(with Nigel,Jason or Lennard!), Jake, Dave M, Todd, Harper, Cary on his new Boyer, then we will have a sweet fleet of A's!

Dunno - my crew is getting noncommittal but Chris has offered me a spot on his 20...I'm not sure yet. I do enjoy having the ability to hook up the a-cat at the last minute if I had to. I'll probably be on a 20 one way or another this weekend though.
