Let the stoning begin OK, but it's hardly very long. Just a nice sail with all that spin gear you bin talkin' about!

Posts: 890 Dunedin Causeway, FL | Absolutely, I'll be there for the Sunday mini-Macho! It'll be my first sail after knee surgery (meniscus) and hand tendon surgery but I'll get through somehow. Since I'll be out front you can all follow me to know where the course is. I know the B fleet will be strong with a lot of odd boats. My Nacra 5.0 will be there along with a SuperCat 15 and 17, a Nacra 4.5, all well sailed by downsizing A-fleeters. I expect to see a handful of H16s and some Darts for this as well. Except for Catman, Andrew and the Mystere boys aren't up for distance racing. They're more James Joyce "stream of consciousness" sailors. The A Fleet? Maybe Robbie will bring some of his Caps or a Viper. Fondrk will be there on his N20, and Hans will bring over yet another killer GCat to bring your ego down a notch. Conditions look great. Water 76, air 80+, winds predicted 10-15 out of the south. We live in a postcard here! Marine forecast Realtime weather from Pier 60 | | | Re: Mini Macho at Dunedin Sunday

I met this legendary 'Smitty', quite the character. As if I'm not! He was an enthusiast!

Unregistered | I would have loved to be there, but I have club racing at GYC. Andrew any of your fleet coming to GYC for our April races? Hi Robi, as Dave Parker mentioned.. my crew are not big racers... and i would doubt any of my pals would trek down there for an event.. but there are guys who may... I would suggest you guys contact LJ at TampaBayCatSailors@yahoogroups.com if you want to try and set up something.... as she is very involved in all the Tampa races... I would be glad to spread the word if something does come up. | | | Re: Mini Macho at Dunedin Sunday

Posts: 744 | Dave - all, I'm heading into town on Saturday and plan to setup and sail that afternoon. You guys leaving your boats on the beach over night? It appears Rocco and Smitty will smile on us; just look at the great weekend forecast! See you Saturday!! Bob

Unregistered | I will be there... and probably leave my boat on the beach...
BE WARNED... last year we had a few new cops who partrol the beach tell us not to leave them or they would tow them... NEVER HAPPENED. No one was towed...
supposedly a cop told this to someone about a month ago (again, no one was towed).
There will probably be 10-15 boats plus trailers there for both races (mini and full macho)this weekend | | | Re: Mini Macho at Dunedin Sunday

Unregistered | I'll be there too! Doesn't this race go around Clearwater and Caladesi once or twice? It was supposed to be "around the island" but i hear a few people have said they wont race through the Clearwater Pass on spring break so I "hear" it is being considered to go around the islands to the north (3 Rooker... Anclote Key... Nantucket (kidding), etc...) | | | Re: Mini Macho at Dunedin Sunday

Unregistered | no.... lol... powerboats... .lots and lots of powerboats go through the pass (plus jet skis)
there are also several hotel/beach bars that attract lots and lots of bikini's... boats and drunk buttheads.... even though the coast guard patrol it.. (and the local police) ... there is lots of traffic
The pass can also get VERY wild with wind.. waves... currents (all going in different directions). Conditions can change quickly. I personally have gone from on the wire.. to leaward and have the boat capsize over my head ... then rush towards the breakers... no fun!
Probably not the best weekend to have 20 cats in there... but on the other hand.. i have sailed through it dozens of times... (even with heavy traffic). It is do-able... and historically (durring races)... more often than not... there is little wind..waves or problems
They are currently calling for 15-18mph... it could get wild in there.

Unregistered | A 40 mile steeplchase at 15+ ought to show who is Macho (and who is not, Andrew). Don't make me fill your hulls with quick dry cement~! I will try to call the sheriff and get allowence to leave boats overnight. It's never actually been a problem, just blustery threats. Are you taking over the post of Smitty??? Johnny Law is just another whiner. Officer, His Name is Dave Parker, i will be happy to provide his street address.. phone number ... and picture... | | | Re: Mini Macho at Dunedin Sunday

Posts: 890 Dunedin Causeway, FL | Missed opportunity! With Bob Curry coming down from the Panhandle with his F17 and Robbie Daniel (AHPC Viper dealer) based here in Dunedin I was hoping to finally see a well sailed F16 square off against a well sailed F17. Unfortunalely, Robbie is out of commission for a month with an injury. I guess we'll have to wait to see our own "Thrilla in Manila". In the mean time, Bob will have to deal with my Nacra 5.0. Bring it on, Bob! | | |
