A dear friend, Tyler Smith has died after a brief illness in Virginia Beach. Tyler was an avid supporter of catamaran sailing for a couple of decades, prior to retiring a few years ago to concentrate on raising a young family of three boys. As team manager of Chick's Beach Sailing Center, Tyler won three consecutive Worrell 1000s and numerous other major events.

While Tyler was always there to lend a hand on the beach, a few of us "old-timers" remember him as a very capable skipper in his own right. He seemed to enjoy helping out on the beach and on the committee boat more than the actual sailing itself.

Tyler will be missed. Our prays go out to his wife, three boys and family.

W.F.

I got the news this morning. How sad. Tyler was a huge benefit to,and driving force behind the Va. Beach cat scene.
He will be missed. Condolences and prayers to his family.

I was lucky to get to know Tyler during the Worrell 1000 races and continued to become friends over the years. He was always a great supporter of catamaran sailing and fun to be around. He will be greatly missed.
