I have a 1990 SE with wings and we prefer going for long distances to enjoy the waters on Lake Erie and Florida Gulf Coast. I remember there use to be a motor mount made by Cheata. Anyone know how they work and how they are added? I assume you would use a 3 or 3.5 hp long shaft, does that sound right?

Any discussion would be appreciated.

Wyatt

I purchased a 16 that had a Cheeta and a 2hp Evinrude short shaft motor. I never used it (so obviously can't comment on hp), as the previous owner lost the arm (I ground the rivets off to remove the base and sold the motor) He used when the wind died on the South China Sea. The (15-20 degree) downward angle of the (15 to 18") arm from the rear crossbar makes the short shaft motor sit plenty deep.

i THINK Cheata is the maker of the motor mount.. and you can use different motors on them. I know Murrays.com used to sell a motor mount.

They mount on the rear beam. There are permanent and temporary ways to mount them.

I also know someone who uses a trolling motor on the front beam of his H21. With Jib only (and trolling motor) they go from a boat ramp to an island for weekend camping. They raise the main when they remove the gear from the boat.. it works well for them.

I had a Hobie Magnum for awhile and was afraid to try an auxillary. I wasn't sure what would happen if the boat went over. Here, on Florida's gulf coast, afternoon storms come on quickly. Sometimes the gusts are fierce.

I found that the Cheata was made by Peter Carras of Hobe Sound, FL on the east coast. I've tried emailing and calling him, but I have no success anyone in the Florida area know him?

Thanks, Rick. I see you have the TheMightyHobie18 model. I'm getting on the road tomorrow to get to Florida for a regatta in Gulfport and I'll be there for a few weeks. Any idea on how I can get it delivered there?

One more thing: Does it come with instructions? Will I need to bring a lot of tools and drills?

Sure, we can ship it anywhere. Just put in the shipping address in addition to the billing address.
Never had anyone have trouble installing. I have never used one, but I assume it comes with instructions or we would be getting a lot of after-sale phone calls.
