Can't help you out with the robustness demand. That will always be a trade-off although you're very hard pressed damaging it while just sailing. With respect to bouyancy, the newer boats/designs have adressed that point. Boats like the Viper, Aussie Blade and I suspect the new VWM Falcon as well.
