As the preponderance of sailors on this forum have high-tech boats and don't want to risk anything with them, this question may have little pertinence.

But to those interested in having more harmless fun in regattas than the debate over how far back to attach the telltales, I ask if there is an alternative to the current latex balloon.

Gone (mostly) are the days of pre-race shenanigans like water balloon grenade tossing (we were lucky to have a balloon slingshot on our T-31 leadbomb - probably soaked us more than the other boats, but that's another story). I guess the concern is with the latex pieces ending up as marine floatsam...

Is there anything out there more sea-creature friendly? That could work similar to latex?.. That slingshot would work quite well between the diamond wire and shroud....

Or should those "piratey-types" just stick to the super-soaker type tube gun?

simple! carry a trebuchet onboard and shoot watermelons, cantaloupes, pineapples, rocks and or cattle at other boats! they are bio-degradable

Condoms made from natural stuff maybe. I preffer the good ol supersoaker cannon. I did grab a Blue Bottle Jellyfish and throw it at my crew once (that didn't go over well).

This guy and his kin want to say 'thank you' to waterbug for thinking about them. Too bad there aren't more people out there like you, w'bug. Thanks.

You could throw F-16's at each other.

Sponges, and you can pick them up and re-use them.

I vote for the good old "Super Soaker" I tried charging one up with a CO2 cannister once, range wasn't much better than the standard model!

Seaweed bombs are completely eco-sensitive, totally disgusting, and recyclable.

buckets are good. Not the bucket the contents.

Wadded up sailing instructions seem easy too.
