hi guys,
i am looking at buying a second hand mosquito or even possibly building a new timber mossie...there seems to be a few coming up on ebay but the all seem to be rubbish...can someone point out a few good boats for sale somewhere around melbourne,if there are any...
if i cant find one, how often do decent second hand sails come up for sale...just trying to make the boat a bit more price attractive for the wife....
cheers
andrew

Hi Andrew,

If you're on a budget, there's a ply boat "SPOT" on the SA website . I have the boat I think AJ built prior to that one. He builds strong light boats. I don't know the boat but if you can be bothered making the trip it would definitely be worth a look at the price. Ready to race and on a trailer for $2500.00. The only real issue I've had with mine was some softness in the working deck, which if you are handy enough to consider building a boat, would be no big deal to fix.

Cheers,

Simon

They do come up. You just have to keep an eye on the VMCA web site and this forum.

The Boyer foam-sandwich boats from the 90s are probably the best prospect. They perform well and seem to last very well. They cost from $3000 to $5000 on a trailer.

There is one for sale at Somers. Look here:

1730 is for sail Carter boat would be strong and stiff.
sails and rig would need to be replaced as well as tramp deck, and a general tidy up.
But for $2000 on trailer would be a good buy.
