source for the Keys areas are as follows:

For the Race route, partly cloudy chance of precipitation 10%.

Key Largo: Winds from the East 14 - 18 mph.
Marathon: Winds from the east 20 - 22 mph.
Key West: Winds from the east 16 - 18 mph.

Marathon seems strange , but we all understand that forecasts are just that,

and we can never be sure.

Skippers meeting at 09:00 April 25th and we will mesure Key Largo winds from the pier at the Islander resort and report at that meeting, as always rule 4 is to be emphasized.

Did the race happen, or was it too windy?

Starting Islamorada finishing in Key West. Winds 25+, seas 3' to 6' close together,
Basically had to steer DDW due to power of waves. Coming up to get speed, to catch next wave.
Capsized once screaming/surfing down a wave, and the main jibed.

With a lot of sea weed on the rudder, about 5 miles from the finish, the rudder popped off the pintel
while jibbing and broke the tiller arm. (bad rudder retainer)
So we dropped the main, since in those wind/wave conditions one needed both rudders to jibe.
We were doing 6 to 8 knots under jib alone.

Another boat lost a rudder near finish, A M20 broke a spinnaker pole strut 1 hour into race and sailed back to start.

Where have I read that sentence before, it sure does look familiar. Yes Tim you get your balls busted if you can't make it to the 10th sentence of a previous post.
