All yawl (the plural of yawl) F16 sailors from central and south Florida owe us a trip north. Also we need an F16 get together prior to the global challenge. Below is a list of panhandle events that are good opportunities.
July 11-12 Meigs Regatta - Ft Walton Beach - My favorite regatta last year. It is a big regatta that includes all the small monohull boats. Ft Walton Yacht Club put on a great event.
Aug 22-23 Big Mouth Regatta in Pensacola. The first day is a distance race out to the sea buoy in the gulf. It is a lot of fun. It is also a big monohull regatta. We start well behind the monohulls and the idea is that no monohull should beat you to the finish.
Sept 12-13 Juana good time regatta at Juana's Pagoda in Navarre. The first day is a distance race and the second buoys. It is also a very "good time".
I think with prior coordination we could get three days of racing at all of the above.

I know I will be doing Juana's. I've already scheduled vacation. The others, hmmmmmmm, I might can do them... I need to get some stuff done around the house, so the others will be dependant on how much I do get done and $.

Juana's calendar says Sept 11, 12 and 13. Any idea what they have in mind for the 3rd day?

I might be able to make this...no commitment (yet).

PTP, you be back for this?

Friday the 11th is just the setting up and partying part. Usually beer specials and stuff like that.

Saturday and Sunday are the races.

For those of us southies who rarely venture north of Tampa, Which one of those is -closer- to Tampa, driving time wise? Sounds like Juana's has the better chance of a good F16 turnout if some of you guys were already planing on it.

I spend way too much time on the road in my day job, (I'm typing this from Kuwait City, Kuwait) so the wife keeps me on a very short leash on my off days, that's why I don't go north of Tampa too often.

If I were to come up for Juana's, and if we get done sailing and putting the boat on the trailer on Sunday at say, 5pm, and I immediately hit the road, what time might I be back near Orlando or Tampa (and still have 2 more hours of driving) ?

Chris, I definitely owe you one!

Tback, Timbo; I vote for Juana's. Last time I was there my night job was designated driver (which is why Terry doesn't remember the free beer laugh!) I'm reapplying right now!

There aren't many better places to enjoy an evening out, after a day's sailing, than the deck at Juanas.

I'm in! (and I'll try for Meigs as well)

Yeahbut...how long does it take to drive up there? And exactly what town is Juana's in anyway?

IMO FWBYC and Navarre, and Pensacola are close enough to make it a wash when you are driving from southern Fl.
I am planning on it. Remaining brother unlikely to get married anytime soon and I AIN'T having any more kids. There is a horse lease I have to deal with now... BUT I think I should be good for Juanas.

We'd love to come up, just have to see about logistics. Kids, work, and whatever else pops up can be a real dream squisher. But I think you're right, we southern FL sailors need to come up to your world a bit. I only wish it wasn't 9 hrs. away. Do you have some inexpensive accomodations as well?

Tback is a genius at that stuff! Lets nominate him for housing committee.

I would love to offer up my place... but it ain't my place anymore!
Don't forget 2 months after Juanas is the global challenge.
"I'll come to your house to play if you come to mine!" smile
If I hope not to make a fool of myself at the global thingie, I think I have to do Juanas with a class of F16s.

Oh wait... I do have camping space available actually, and a place people can set up and sail private from, but close, to Juanas.

Something I did last year was team up with someone else and stay at a condo. I think I paid 150 from Thursday-Sunday, left Sunday in case there was any confusion. Of course that was a bunch of guys though.

Everything should be a little less expensive too, Summar is "officially" over after Labor Day, so it should be pretty easy to find something.

My girlfriend is supposed to be coming with me. So, I would probably have to get a room to ourselves....Sometimes girlfriends and a bunch of guys don't work out for some reason????? Of course I would pay for that one..

I'll bring another bottle of rum too......

Also,
I plan on arriving that Thursday afternoon, maybe set up and then launch the boat Friday and do some sailing and stuff like that. Juana's is pretty open to that, at least they were last year. I will be leaving on Monday also, I didn't want to make a mad dash to tear down and all of that stuff this year, so if anyone needs any help tearing down, I can help on Sunday.

Timbo,
From Pensacola, it took Tom Shannon and I about 9 hours to get to Gulfport Beach three weeks ago. However, we stopped a couple of times( had a transfer case leak I was checking) and we took 19 from Tallahassee to there, so we stopped in some of those towns. In reality, it should have taken us about 8 hours.....

This regatta is really just a fun regatta, as a matter of fact you can't protest until Sunday night/Monday morning at 1am at the dock...get my drift?

really laid back....

it really is laid back... kind of wonder why they even have winners. there's an idea. a regatta with no award ceremony other than random prizes. of course the results would be posted but no hoopla about them. there's something I could get behind!

CAB -

I am in for Juana's with a few extra days built in. This is a "good time" regatta, not a hard core event - it does take place at a great venue and there are some good sailors there. Not a bad way to spend a few days.

Big Mouth sounds good, too. Do you know if they would let me do it uni or do I need to find a crew (since it goes out the pass to the sea buoy)? Racing throught he biog boats is always fun.
