120 F18s split into 4 groups - white,red,blue and black.

2 groups on each start so 60 boats/start

100 boats in the slower handicap start and 60 in the faster [on seperate course]

races needed to be in multiples of 3 so that each group sailed each other the same number of times.

4 races on friday in 15-20 knots, raid [long distance] on saturday and 2 races on sunday in 5 and 10 knots.

These guys have it all wrong... What are they thinking? They clearly have NO IDEA how to run a regatta... The Carnac event would obviously be sooo much better if they had true one design racing... With a 4 boat minimum for each class like Tradewinds or Spring Fever... i suspect every boat ever made could experience true one design racing!

They should follow our strategy in the US... they would have a much better event and grow participation if they supported one design racing for that lousy turnout of 160 non F18 boats. I am surprised that regatta does not listen to those sailors and offer them true one design racing with the promise that the fleet would really grow!

But, I am sure the party was just great and the promise of that party was the only thing that allowed them to attract 360 total boats to a three day event.

Those french guys better get on the ball or this regatta is in going to crash and crash even harder then it already seems to be doing.

then do it! When you have enough critical mass to support an event like that, let us know and we'll show up.

Not sure, but I read BIG SARCASTIC in that post. Read it again. If I may; here in the States we are big on one design racing, 4 boat minimums etc. They say it "will grow the class" if you restrict it. Since our model is working so well, those across the pond should emulate US!

If there was no sarcasm, please accept my apologies! But thats how I see it. Just spreadin' a little humor!

Oh, I got the sarcasm the first time, its the badmouthing of 2 named regatta's that I dont like or understand. One of them being our gracious host of catsailor's regatta...

Mark, if its so good, just go over there.

For some reason, I don't think that the open class vs. OD debate is what keeping people from sailing catamarans. Your drumbeat on this is getting monotonous and tiresome.

And if you manage to put 100 boats on the line, I'll be there. I don't care what class they're in - but just saying that everyone is going to be racing on the same starting line isn't going to get you to 100+ boats on the line.

And if what they're saying in the other thread is true, then I'd really begin to wonder if they do, in fact, know what they're doing over there.

100 boats and the "promise" of a good party, and I will be there....sarcasm intended

And you don't have to be first or sail the right course to win a distance race.Do they have it right ,Mark? Frickin' frogs.A big onya to Will Sunnucks though.

They have more chase boats, one-design chase boats at that, than most of us have boats at our regattas. seriously, wtf

All those chase boats are maned by policemen! the Gendarms seem to control sailing in France instead of the coastguard.

There are three kind of Gendarmes units, each attached to a branch of the military: Air force, infantry and Navy. The Navy ones (gendarme maritime) are for all intend and purpose the equivalent of your coast guards.
