Posts: 502 Port Noarlunga, SA, Australia | Hi all, we sailed the Rum Race on the weekend put on by Victor Harbour Yacht Club. Conditions were light with small seas. 6 Mozzies raced in a mixed fleet of 28 cats. I sailed 18.4km with a max speed of 12.5knots in an brief gust of wind. Line Honours won by John Wright on Nacra 5.8 with spinnaker (1626) Full results here www.vhyc.org.au/Results/rumrace09.htmDarryn Mosquito 1782 | | | Re: Rum Race

Posts: 502 Port Noarlunga, SA, Australia | Results are being redone, Nacra5.8 with spin has dropped to fith on yardstick and Simon and Peter Hallsworth on Mosquito mk2 will go up to 2nd followed by Arrow(C Pearsons) and Arafura Cadet(C Coombs). Good day for the pre 1966 designs Jeff, I thought you were going to catch me on that final tight reach/broad reach back across the bay, do you think using your spinnaker helped? Posts: 1,383 Kingston SE South Australia | I was thinking at the time the spin was a waste of time as I had to go wide to heat it up then it took forever to get back down. Then as I went around the final mark I attempted to use it accross the wind like Simon on the F16 which really got interesting with those gusts, meanwhile you just pointed where you wanted to go. So I have to say tactically the spin was hopeless but fair dincum its great fun when a gust comes through, what can I say I'm addicted . The Arrows and Arafura's really impressed me the way they carried an adults weight. More new sailors need to see these and the Mozzies so they buy a boat they can learn on and control. regards

Most recent example is the guy who bought the local Viper, scared himself silly and left the sport, if only he had started off on something more controllable, to learn the basics, then move up. I hear the Arrow Nationals are at Victor this year, are you bringing the fleet down at Xmas? I think the Arafura's have there Nats at the same time. Darryn | | | Re: Rum Race

Posts: 1,383 Kingston SE South Australia | Your spot on about the Viper, I scared the hell out of myself with the big rig Stingray as a learner and missed most of the races with any decent wind. If I'd started with a Mozzie I would have sailed twice as much in my first year. I'd love the kids to do the Nats, if it works out we'll be there with a quad stack but I think it's when I have to assist in our 2 week learn to sail program. regards
